*Buy a UGC Limited from the creator while copies last: resellers match the creator's price on 43% of in-stock items and ask double on 46%.*

When a UGC Limited still has copies left from the creator, buying from the creator is almost always the cheaper route. A UGC Limited is an avatar item a community creator published in a fixed number of copies, and "copies remaining" is how many of those the creator has not sold yet. Across the 9,510 paid UGC Limiteds (ones carrying a Robux price) that still had creator stock and at least one live resale listing in the RBX Invest catalog on October 6, 2026, the cheapest reseller was asking exactly the creator's price on 4,107 of them (43%) and double that price or more on 4,332 (46%). Only 504 items, about 5%, had a reseller willing to go below the creator's price. The resale market's one real advantage over the creator's stock is time. A resale purchase frees you to sell again after up to 7 days, while a copy bought from the creator stays locked for up to 30.

**Quick answer:** Buy from the creator while copies remain, because resellers match the creator's price on 43% of in-stock items and ask at least double on 46%. Buy a resale when the creator's stock is unreachable, when a reseller is genuinely undercutting, or when you want the shorter 7-day holding period, the wait before you may resell, instead of the 30-day one.

| | Buying from the creator | Buying from a reseller |
|---|---|---|
| Price | The creator's set price, fixed until copies run out | Whatever the cheapest seller asks |
| Typical cost against the other route | The cheaper or equal option on 95% of in-stock items | At or above the creator's price on 95% of in-stock items |
| Holding period before you can resell | Up to 30 days | Up to 7 days |
| Supply | Runs out permanently once copies hit zero | Depends on who wants to sell |
| Where your Robux goes | 30% creator, 30% Roblox, and 40% to the experience owner when bought in-experience | 50% reseller, 10% creator, 10% affiliate, 30% Roblox |
| Subscription needed to buy | None | None |

## Should you buy a UGC Limited from the creator or a reseller? Buy from the creator while stock lasts

The creator's price is a fixed number anyone can pay until the copies run out. A resale price is whatever one player decided to ask today. Those two things behave very differently, and the gap between them is wider than most people expect.

Of the 11,147 paid UGC Limiteds with copies still left from their creator on October 6, 2026, 9,510 also had at least one live resale listing. That count covers items the creator priced at 100,000 R$ or less, which leaves out a few dozen parked at silly prices by creators who wanted the stock off the market without taking it off sale. That overlap is where the choice actually exists, and the split looks like this:

- 4,107 items (43%): the cheapest reseller asks exactly the creator's price.
- 4,332 items (46%): the cheapest reseller asks double the creator's price or more.
- 504 items (5%): a reseller asks less than the creator does.

The median cheapest resale across all 9,510 sits at 105% of the creator's price. So the normal case is a reseller matching the creator or beating them by nothing at all, and the second-most-normal case is a reseller asking a multiple nobody has to pay yet.

One word of caution on all of those resale figures. An ask is a price someone hopes to get, and a sale is a price someone actually paid. A 100,000 R$ listing on an item the creator still sells for 2,500 R$ tells you about the seller's optimism.

## Why do resellers ask double the creator's price? Because 2x is their break-even

Roblox's [marketplace fee documentation](https://create.roblox.com/docs/marketplace/marketplace-fees-and-commissions) splits a community-created Limited resale four ways: 50% to the reseller, 10% to the item's creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. The reseller keeps half of whatever the item sells for.

Work it with round numbers. You buy a copy from the creator for 1,000 R$. You list it at 1,500 R$ and it sells. You receive 750 R$, so you lost 250 R$ on a sale that looked like a 500 R$ profit. To get your 1,000 R$ back you have to sell at 2,000 R$, and anything above that is where profit starts.

That math is the whole reason the asks cluster where they do. A reseller who paid the creator's price cannot profit at any price under double it, so 46% of in-stock items carry asks at or above 2x. And a reseller matching the creator's price exactly, which is what happens on 43% of these items, would collect half of what that copy costs new. Our [reselling versus trading breakdown](/articles/reselling-vs-trading-roblox-limiteds) walks through the same split from the seller's side.

Classic Limiteds, the ones Roblox published itself, work on a gentler split: a 30% marketplace fee, so the seller keeps 70% and break-even is about 1.43x. Classic Limiteds have no creator stock left to buy, so every classic purchase is a resale.

## When is a resale the better buy?

### The creator's copies are out of reach

"Copies remaining" above zero does not always mean you can get one. Creators choose where their stock sells, and about 73% of UGC Limiteds only ever sold their original copies inside experiences, never on the Roblox website, which our guide to [UGC Limited sale locations](/articles/where-to-buy-ugc-limiteds-sale-locations) covers in detail. If the experience is gone, quiet, or hard to find, the remaining copies may as well not exist.

Per-account caps do the same job. Of those 11,147 in-stock items, 1,316 limit how many copies one account may buy, and 162 of them allow exactly one. If you already own your one copy and want a second, a reseller is your only option. There is more on those caps in our guide to [UGC Limited purchase limits](/articles/roblox-ugc-limited-purchase-limits).

### You want to sell again quickly

Roblox applies up to a 30-day holding period after the original sale and up to 7 days on every resale after that. A holding period is a window where the item sits in your inventory and cannot be resold. Those numbers come from Roblox's July 2023 [holding period announcement](https://devforum.roblox.com/t/updates-to-item-holding-periods-marketplace/2468674), and we go deeper on them in our [holding periods guide](/articles/roblox-limited-holding-periods).

So when a reseller matches the creator's price exactly, which happens on 43% of in-stock items, the resale is arguably the better buy for a trader. Same cost, and your copy unlocks in a week instead of a month. For a collector who plans to keep the item, the 30-day lock costs nothing and the creator route is the safer habit.

### A reseller is genuinely undercutting

It happens on about 5% of in-stock items, and the discount is real when it does: the median undercut sits at 75% of the creator's price, a 25% saving. Some of those are players dumping a copy they no longer want. Others are items where the creator raised their own price long after launch, leaving old listings below it. Either way, the lowest ask is worth a look before you pay the creator, which takes one glance at the item page.

## What the two prices look like right now

These six items all still had creator stock on October 6, 2026. They are ordered by the cheapest resale ask as a share of the creator's price, highest first, and they cover every pattern above.

| Item | Creator's price | Cheapest resale ask | Copies left | What is going on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/14354427873?size=150) [Doughboy's Shades](/item/14354427873) | 100 R$ | 13,000 R$ | 7 of 85 | Stock sells inside experiences only, one per account |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/14275930823?size=150) [Straw Hat Nika](/item/14275930823) | 2,500 R$ | 100,000 R$ | 74 of 100 | A hopeful ask while the creator still sells |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/13681445264?size=150) [Halo of Sparkling Heroes Emerald](/item/13681445264) | 5,000 R$ | 10,000 R$ | 40 of 50 | Priced at exactly the reseller's break-even |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/13033933434?size=150) [Limited Gold Chain](/item/13033933434) | 5,000 R$ | 10,000 R$ | 101 of 250 | Priced at exactly the reseller's break-even |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/13014108294?size=150) [Snaker Assassin](/item/13014108294) | 10,000 R$ | 3,000 R$ | 61 of 100 | A reseller undercutting the creator by 70% |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/13012672338?size=150) [Mysterious Antlers](/item/13012672338) | 5,000 R$ | 1,000 R$ | 378 of 500 | A reseller undercutting the creator by 80% |

The [Halo of Sparkling Heroes Emerald](/item/13681445264) row is the cleanest illustration of the break-even rule. A reseller asking 10,000 R$ for a copy that cost 5,000 R$ from the creator walks away with 5,000 R$ after the split, exactly what they paid. For more on that family, see our [Halo of Sparkling Heroes history](/articles/halo-of-sparkling-heroes-series-roblox).

## Does it cost you more to buy from a reseller?

Not directly. You pay the asking price either way, and neither route charges the buyer a fee on top. What changes is who gets your Robux.

On a first sale of a UGC Limited, Roblox's documentation splits it 30% to the creator, 40% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. That 40% share goes to the owner of the experience when the purchase happens in-experience, through the avatar inspect menu, `AvatarEditorService`, or a `MarketplaceService` prompt. A purchase made on the Roblox website pays no affiliate commission at all. On a resale the affiliate share drops to 10%, which is why experience owners push launch sales so hard.

Buying needs no subscription on either route. Selling does: reselling a Limited requires an active Roblox Plus subscription on the seller's account, and the buyer of a resale needs nothing. Our [verdict on Roblox Plus](/articles/is-roblox-plus-worth-it) covers whether that is worth 4.99 USD a month for you.

One discount is worth knowing about. Roblox Plus subscribers get 10% off eligible purchases for their first two months and 20% from the third consecutive month, with Roblox covering the difference so the creator still earns on the original price. Roblox's documentation lists avatar items as eligible and excludes items priced above 1,000,000 Robux, publishing fees, ad credits and group fees. It does not spell out how resale purchases are treated, so do not count on a discount appearing at checkout.

## How to check before you buy

Four things, in order, on the item's page:

1. **Copies remaining.** Zero means the creator route is closed forever and resale is the only way in.
2. **The lowest ask.** Compare it against the creator's price. If it matches, pick your route on the holding period instead.
3. **Where the stock sells.** Shop, experiences, or both. Stock you cannot reach does not help you.
4. **Any per-account cap.** One copy per account changes the plan if you wanted two.

Every item page on RBX Invest carries those numbers, and the [Deals feed](/deals) flags listings sitting below an item's recent average price, which is useful for spotting the 5% of undercuts while they last. Deals needs a signed-in account. To browse the UGC side generally, try the [UGC Limited hats collection](/collections/ugc-limited-hats), and for the items with the fewest copies anywhere on Roblox, the [rarest Limiteds](/collections/rarest-limiteds).

None of this is financial advice. Robux spent on a Limited can lose value, and a resale market that looks busy today can go quiet for months.

Figures in this article come from Roblox's marketplace documentation on create.roblox.com, Roblox's July 2023 developer forum announcement on item holding periods, Roblox's own item details API, and RBX Invest catalog data as of October 6, 2026.

## FAQ

### Is it cheaper to buy a UGC Limited from the creator or a reseller?

The creator, on about 95% of items that still have stock. On October 6, 2026, out of 9,510 in-stock paid UGC Limiteds with a live listing, resellers matched the creator's price on 43% and asked double or more on 46%. Only 5% of items had a reseller asking less than the creator.

### Why do resellers price UGC Limiteds at double what the creator charges?

Because a reseller keeps only 50% of the sale price. Roblox's marketplace documentation splits a UGC Limited resale 50% to the reseller, 10% to the creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate and 30% to Roblox, so a reseller who paid 1,000 R$ needs to sell at 2,000 R$ just to get their Robux back.

### How long before I can resell a UGC Limited I just bought?

Up to 30 days if you bought it from the creator, and up to 7 days if you bought it from a reseller. Roblox set those windows in its July 2023 holding period update. The clock starts at purchase and the item stays in your inventory the whole time.

### Can I trade a UGC Limited instead of buying one?

No. Roblox's player-to-player trade system covers classic Limiteds only, the ones Roblox published itself. UGC Limiteds change hands exclusively through Marketplace resales, so there is no trade route into them at any price.

### Do I need Roblox Plus to buy a UGC Limited?

No. Buying from the creator or from a reseller needs no subscription. Selling is the part that needs one: reselling a Limited requires an active Roblox Plus subscription on the seller's account.

### What happens when a UGC Limited sells out?

The creator's price stops existing and every copy afterwards comes from another player. Supply is fixed at that point, so the cheapest ask becomes the only price there is, and it moves with whoever is willing to sell.

### Why is a reseller asking less than the creator for the same item?

Usually one of two reasons: a player is dumping a copy they no longer want, or the creator raised their own price after launch and older listings now sit below it. It happened on 504 items in our October 6, 2026 snapshot, with the typical undercut landing at 75% of the creator's price.

### Should a collector buy from the creator or a reseller?

A collector who plans to keep the item should buy from the creator while stock lasts, since the 30-day holding period costs nothing if you are not selling. A trader who wants to buy and sell again quickly is better served by a resale at a matching price, because that copy unlocks in 7 days.
