*Roblox RAP moves a tenth of the way toward each new sale price, so 7 sales close half a price gap and 22 close 90%. Thin markets lag for years.*

Roblox RAP updates one sale at a time, and each sale drags it only a tenth of the way to the new price. RAP, short for Recent Average Price, is the smoothed average sale price Roblox prints on every Limited's page, and a Limited is an avatar item with a fixed number of copies that players resell to each other. Closing half the distance between an old RAP and a new price level takes about 7 sales, and closing 90% of it takes 22. On a hat that sells twice a day that is a week or two of waiting. On [Dominus Frigidus](/item/48545806), which has 27 copies and a RAP of 28,059,680 R$, RBX Invest's sale history holds no recorded sale since January 2023, so the number on its page is a three-year-old reading.

**Quick answer:** RAP moves 10% of the way toward each new sale price, so it needs about 7 sales to cover half a price move and 22 to cover 90% of one. Cheap Limiteds get there in days. Million-Robux Limiteds sell once or twice a year, so their RAP can lag the real market by years.

| Classic Limited's RAP | Items | Median sales in the past year | Share with no sale in 30 days | Time to close 90% of a price gap at that pace |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Under 1,000 R$ | 298 | 731 | 5% | about 11 days |
| 1,000 to 10,000 R$ | 1,077 | 81 | 5% | about 3 months |
| 10,000 to 100,000 R$ | 811 | 19 | 34% | about 14 months |
| 100,000 to 1,000,000 R$ | 287 | 2 | 67% | about 11 years |
| Over 1,000,000 R$ | 75 | 1 | 76% | about 22 years |

## How does Roblox RAP update after a sale? It moves a tenth of the way

Every time a copy of a Limited sells, Roblox recalculates that item's RAP with one step: new RAP = old RAP + (sale price - old RAP) / 10. The sale price only gets a tenth of a vote, and the old RAP keeps nine tenths.

Round numbers make the pace obvious. Say a hat has a RAP of 100,000 R$ and the market moves up, with buyers now paying 200,000 R$. The first sale at the new price takes RAP to 110,000 R$. The second takes it to 119,000 R$. The third reaches 127,100 R$. After seven sales at 200,000 R$ the RAP reads about 152,000 R$, still a long way under what every one of those buyers actually paid.

The [full RAP explainer](/articles/what-is-rap-roblox) walks through the formula step by step. It works the same going down. A hat with a RAP of 100,000 R$ whose copies start selling for 50,000 R$ shows about 73,900 R$ after seven sales. RAP is a running average of an item's whole sale history, so it describes where an item has been.

## How many sales does RAP need to catch up? Seven for half, 22 for 90%

Because each sale closes a tenth of the remaining gap, the arithmetic is the same for every item and every price. The gap left after n sales is 0.9 multiplied by itself n times.

| Sales at the new price | Share of the price gap RAP has covered |
| --- | --- |
| 1 | 10% |
| 3 | 27% |
| 7 | 52% |
| 14 | 77% |
| 22 | 90% |
| 44 | 99% |

Those sale counts are the real unit of time for RAP. A day or a month means nothing to the formula. Twenty two sales is twenty two sales whether they land in a week or a decade, which is why the same number on two different items can be worth very different amounts of trust.

## How long does that take in practice? Days on cheap Limiteds, years on gems

RBX Invest tracks sale history for 2,548 Classic Limiteds that still have copies in circulation, meaning the older items Roblox published itself and later stopped selling. Sale frequency across them is wildly uneven. The median Limited worth under 1,000 R$ recorded 731 sales in the past year, roughly two a day. The median Limited worth over 1,000,000 R$ recorded one sale in the whole year, and 44% of that top group recorded none at all.

Pair those rates with the 22-sale requirement and you get the lag for a typical item in each band, which is the last column of the table at the top of this page. A 2,000 R$ hat prices itself in about three months. A 500,000 R$ hat would need around 11 years of sales at its current pace to let RAP fully absorb a new price level, and the market will have moved several times before then. Scarce, expensive Limiteds, the ones traders call gems, have the least reliable RAP on the platform for exactly the reason that makes them desirable: almost nobody sells one.

### Dominus Frigidus: a RAP from 2023

![Dominus Frigidus](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/48545806?size=420)

Frigidus is the clearest case in the catalog. Twenty seven copies exist, meaning 27 units in total across every account on the platform. Its RAP reads 28,059,680 R$, and the last two sales in our records were in December 2022 and January 2023. Roblox's own economy data showed the cheapest copy listed at 618,033,988 R$ when we checked on October 21, 2026, a number an owner picked to say the copy is not really for sale. Traders value the item well above its RAP, and no amount of staring at that RAP will tell you by how much, because the sales that would move it are not happening. Our [items leaderboard](/items-leaderboard) shows the same pattern across the top of the market, and both the [Dominus collection](/collections/dominus) and the [most expensive Limiteds collection](/collections/most-expensive-limiteds) are full of items in this state.

## Why is my Limited's RAP wrong? 42% of active Limiteds sit more than 10% off their recent sales

Among the 1,633 Classic Limiteds worth 1,000 R$ or more that recorded at least three sales in the past 90 days, the median item's RAP sits 8% away from its own 90-day average sale price. Over that sample, 42% are more than 10% away and 12% are more than 25% away. RAP sat above the recent average on 62% of them, so the typical error points upward.

These are the items that trade often enough to measure. On the thin end of the market the error cannot even be calculated, since there are no recent sales to compare against.

| Item | Copies | Sales in past year | RAP | Cheapest copy listed | Average sale, last 90 days |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/1365767?size=150) [Valkyrie Helm](/item/1365767) | 12,523 | 689 | 258,077 R$ | 252,499 R$ | 244,000 R$ |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/1029025?size=150) [The Classic ROBLOX Fedora](/item/1029025) | 10,647 | 390 | 412,613 R$ | 403,946 R$ | 379,988 R$ |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/bundle/216046683490600?size=150) [Prankster](/item/20052135) | 2,351 | 200 | 79,031 R$ | 80,000 R$ | 56,820 R$ |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/1285307?size=150) [Sparkle Time Fedora](/item/1285307) | 765 | 14 | 3,182,904 R$ | 3,460,000 R$ | 2,755,000 R$ |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/48545806?size=150) [Dominus Frigidus](/item/48545806) | 27 | 0 | 28,059,680 R$ | 618,033,988 R$ | None recorded |

Those five are ordered by how often they sell. The two at the top sell hundreds of times a year and their RAP lands within a few percent of both the cheapest listing and the recent sale average. Prankster shows the lag in motion: a classic face that crashed through the spring, averaged 56,820 R$ over 90 days, and has already climbed back to a 79,031 R$ RAP on the strength of 33 sales in the last month. Faces as a group fell hard after Roblox replaced the 2D versions with animated ones, which the [faces value decline](/articles/roblox-limited-faces-value-decline) article covers in detail.

### Sparkle Time Fedora: RAP above the market

![Sparkle Time Fedora](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/1285307?size=420)

The original 2007 [Sparkle Time Fedora](/item/1285307) recorded 14 sales in the past year, barely more than one a month. Copies went for 4,250,000 R$ and 4,350,000 R$ in the spring of 2026, then 2,860,000 R$ in September and 2,650,000 R$ in October. Its RAP still reads 3,182,904 R$, about 15% above those two most recent sales, because the earlier and more expensive sales are still doing most of the work in the average. Trader consensus on the item now sits a little below its RAP, which is the opposite direction from Frigidus. Every Sparkle Time hat and its plainer cousins sit together in the [fedora collection](/collections/fedoras), where the live numbers update as copies sell.

A stale RAP is also what makes [projected items](/articles/projected-items-roblox-limiteds-explained) work. A projected item is one whose RAP has been pumped by sales between accounts working together, and the same slow formula that takes 22 real sales to tell the truth needs 22 real sales to undo a lie.

## Which Roblox Limiteds have a RAP you can trust? The ones that sell weekly

Before you use a RAP figure for anything, count the sales behind it. Three checks take under a minute.

- **Look at sales in the last 30 days.** An item with 30 or more recent sales has a RAP that reflects this month. An item with zero has a RAP that reflects whenever it last sold, which the data above says is more than a month ago for 67% of Limiteds worth between 100,000 and 1,000,000 R$ and 76% of those worth more than a million.
- **Compare RAP with the cheapest copy listed.** On the Valkyrie Helm those two numbers are 2% apart. A gap of several multiples means the RAP is a historical record and the asking price is the live market, a divergence the [price above RAP](/articles/roblox-limited-price-higher-than-rap) article quantifies.
- **Read the [resale ladder](/articles/roblox-limited-resale-ladder).** The second and third cheapest asks tell you where the price goes after the bottom copy sells. On thin items the ladder is the only honest price signal available.

For the items where RAP is useless, use what people are asking today. The [reseller tracking terminal](/resell) shows every listed copy with its position in the ladder, and the [Deals feed](/deals), which needs a signed-in account, flags copies listed under their RAP so you can judge whether the discount is real or whether the RAP is simply out of date.

### Does any of this change for UGC Limiteds?

The formula is identical for UGC Limiteds, which are Limiteds published by community creators, and the problem carries over with it. Of the 13,853 UGC Limiteds with a RAP of 1,000 R$ or more, the median recorded two sales in the past year and 29% recorded none. A market that opened in April 2023 has a lot of items that sold out at launch and then went quiet, and their RAP is frozen near whatever the last buyer paid.

Trading decisions here are yours to make, and none of this is financial advice.

RAP is still the most useful single number on an item page, as long as you read it as a record of past sales. Sale volume is what turns it into a price you can act on.

Figures come from RBX Invest catalog and sale-history records as of October 21, 2026, with copy counts and cheapest listings checked against Roblox's economy item details API and our own resale-ladder reads the same day.

## FAQ

### How long does Roblox RAP take to update after a sale?

RAP updates immediately after each sale, but only by a tenth of the distance between the old RAP and the new sale price. The visible change is small: a copy that sells 20% above a 100,000 R$ RAP lifts that RAP by 2,000 R$.

### How many sales does it take for RAP to match a new price?

About 7 sales to cover half the gap, 14 for roughly three quarters, and 22 for 90%. Those counts hold at any price, because each sale closes 10% of whatever gap is left.

### Why is my Roblox Limited's RAP higher than the price it sells for?

Older, more expensive sales are still inside the average. RAP keeps nine tenths of its previous value at every sale, so when the market drops, RAP descends in small steps behind it. Across Classic Limiteds with at least three sales in the past 90 days, RAP sits above the 90-day average sale price on 62% of them.

### Does RAP change when someone lists a copy for sale?

No. Only completed sales move RAP. An owner can list a copy at 10 times RAP or at half of it, and the number on the item page stays where it is until money changes hands.

### Can one sale crash a Limited's RAP?

One sale can only move RAP a tenth of the way toward that sale price, so a single cheap sale takes a modest bite. Repeated cheap sales do the damage, which is why a run of panic selling shows up in RAP over weeks.

### Which Roblox Limiteds have the most accurate RAP?

The ones that sell most often, which are generally the cheaper and more common Limiteds. Items like the Valkyrie Helm and The Classic ROBLOX Fedora record hundreds of sales a year and their RAP lands within a few percent of their live asking price.

### How can I check how often a Limited sells?

Every item page on RBX Invest carries that item's sale and price history, and the [items leaderboard](/items-leaderboard) lets you sort and filter the whole Classic Limited catalog. A quick proxy is the gap between RAP and the cheapest listing, since items that rarely sell tend to show the widest gaps.

### Is RAP the same thing as an item's value?

RAP is the average of an item's past sale prices. Value in the sense traders use it is what someone will pay today, and on scarce items the two can differ by multiples. For an item with no sales in a year, the asks on the resale ladder carry far more information than the RAP does.
