*Roblox asset IDs ran in order until August 2024, so an ID of 11 digits or fewer dates an item: 1 million is 2007, 1 billion is late 2017.*

Every Roblox item carries an asset ID, the number sitting inside its catalog link, and for anything made before August 2024 that number tells you when the item was created. Roblox handed out asset IDs in order for 17 years, so a smaller number means an older item. The Classic ROBLOX Fedora is asset 1029025 and was created on May 31, 2007. An item with a ten-digit ID in the billions came from 2018 or later. In August 2024 Roblox switched newly created assets to random IDs of 14 digits or more, so anything made since then keeps its age to itself.

**Quick answer:** Roblox asset IDs ran in order from 2007 until August 2024, so any ID of 11 digits or fewer can be dated by size alone. Roughly, 1 million is 2007, 20 million is 2010, 100 million is 2013, 1 billion is late 2017, 4.6 billion is 2020 and 12 billion is 2023. IDs of 14 digits or more were generated at random after Roblox's July 2024 change and carry no date.

| Asset ID from | Item created in |
| --- | --- |
| 1,028,606 | 2007 |
| 1,309,911 | 2008 |
| 6,837,506 | 2009 |

| 69,226,736 | 2012 |
| 102,604,869 | 2013 |

| 201,970,142 | 2015 |
| 340,623,941 | 2016 |
| 600,979,849 | 2017 |

| 11,991,940,223 | 2023 |
| 15,826,738,726 | 2024, up to mid-August |
| 14 digits or more | after mid-August 2024, year unknown from the ID |

Each row is the lowest asset ID we hold for an item created in that year, taken from RBX Invest catalog data covering 203,046 items with a recorded creation date. An ID that sits just under a boundary could belong to either side of New Year by a few days, so treat the edges as approximate and everything in between as solid.

## Where do you find a Roblox item's asset ID?

In the item's link. A Roblox catalog address looks like `roblox.com/catalog/1029025/The-Classic-ROBLOX-Fedora`, and that middle number is the asset ID. Our pages use the same number, so the same hat sits on [our Classic ROBLOX Fedora page](/item/1029025). Copy the number out of either address and you have what you need.

Bundled items behave differently. Faces, hair packages and character bundles sit on `/bundles/` pages, and bundle numbers come from their own separate counter, so the chart above does not apply to them. Faces are the common trap. The classic face Limiteds (a Limited is an item sold in a capped run of copies, which then changes hands only between players) were rebuilt as animated bundles during Roblox's 2026 dynamic head migration, so a face uploaded in 2009 now sits inside a bundle whose number has 15 digits. The face itself is still a 2009 asset. If you are looking at prices on that family, our write-up on the [decline in classic face Limited values](/articles/roblox-limited-faces-value-decline) covers what the migration did to them.

## What year is a Roblox asset ID from?

Read the size of the number against the chart. This works because Roblox gave each newly uploaded asset the next number in line, across every asset type on the site.

That pattern holds up under a real test. Sorting our catalog by creation year, every year from 2007 to 2024 sits in its own block of ID numbers, and no year's block overlaps the year before it. Across 203,046 items the lowest 2013 ID (102,604,869) is larger than the highest 2012 one, the lowest 2019 ID (2,705,876,924) is larger than the highest 2018 one, and so on all the way up. The round numbers are easy to remember: IDs crossed 10 million during 2009, 100 million in 2012, 1 billion in 2017 and 10 billion in 2022.

A useful side effect is that two items can be put in order without knowing either date. If you are comparing a 2009 sword to a 2013 hat, the smaller ID is the older asset, every time, within the sequential era.

## Roblox Limiteds by asset ID: ten landmarks

These ten classic Limiteds, meaning Limiteds Roblox made itself, show the number climbing across 19 years. Copies means the total ever minted.

Creation dates and copy counts come from RBX Invest catalog data as of September 29, 2026, and each one matches the creation timestamp Roblox publishes in its own asset data. ## Why do new Roblox items have 14-digit asset IDs?

Because Roblox stopped counting in order. On July 22, 2024 Roblox announced on its Developer Forum that [asset ID generation would go non-sequential](https://devforum.roblox.com/t/non-sequential-asset-id-generation-coming-soon/3082004) for newly created assets, and that the number of digits would expand from 11 to 14 or more. The stated reasons were scalability and guarding against asset leaks, since a predictable next number makes unreleased work easy to find. The post set August 5 as the switch date, then a staff update on August 7 pushed it back a week, and the announcement promised no collisions between old IDs and new ones.

Our data lines up with that timeline. The first 14-digit asset in our catalog was created on August 14, 2024, the last item numbered in the old sequence was created on August 19, 2024, and the two systems ran side by side for those few days. Since then the new numbers scatter: items created in 2025 and 2026 both span the same wide range, roughly 70 trillion to 140 trillion, so comparing two of them tells you nothing about which came first. 91 classic Limiteds in our catalog now carry a long ID.

### What a 2026 Limited's ID looks like

![Shedletsekkar](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/93762663362787?size=420)

[Shedletsekkar](/item/93762663362787) is asset 93762663362787, created on September 24, 2026, with 20 copies. Nothing in those 14 digits marks it as recent, and a 2024 item can easily carry a bigger number than a 2026 one. For anything made after the switch, look at the creation date on the item page instead of reading the ID. Our item pages carry it, and the date comes straight from Roblox's own asset data.

## Does the asset ID show when an item went on sale?

It marks the upload. The timestamp Roblox stores is the moment the asset was created on the site, which for most classic Limiteds is days or weeks before the item reached the catalog. The two dates can sit years apart when Roblox takes an old item that was sitting offsale and turns it into a Limited, which is a whole mechanic of its own covered in our guide to [offsale items going Limited](/articles/offsale-roblox-items-going-limited).

So the asset ID tells you how old the file is. For most trading purposes that is close enough, and it is the only date you can read off a link with no lookup at all.

## Does a low asset ID mean a Roblox Limited is worth more?

No. Age and price barely line up. The ten highest-RAP classic Limiteds in our catalog were all created between January 2010 and December 2015, with none from 2007, 2008 or 2009. RAP, or Recent Average Price, is Roblox's rolling average of an item's recent sale prices. The top of that list is [Dominus Frigidus](/item/48545806) at a RAP of 28,059,680 R$ from March 2011, and [Dominus Astra](/item/162067148) from June 2014 at 14,321,557 R$.

Trader consensus orders the same items differently. By consensus street value, meaning what traders actually pay for a copy, [Dominus Empyreus](/item/21070012) from January 2010 sits at the top and [Lord of the Federation](/item/88885069) from August 2012 climbs well up the order from a RAP of 1,277,922 R$ on only 10 copies. Both trade rarely, which leaves their RAP lagging live asks. The era conclusion survives either ordering: everything near the top of both lists was created between 2010 and 2014.

Cohort medians tell the same story. The median 2007 classic Limited has a RAP of 14,630 R$ and the median 2010 one 15,457 R$, while 2013 sits at 5,708 R$ and 2017 at 2,424 R$. Copy counts do more work than dates here: 2007 Limiteds run to a median of 2,531 copies each because Roblox printed them generously, while the scarce lines that traders chase arrived later. Our piece on whether [older Roblox Limiteds are worth more](/articles/are-older-roblox-limiteds-worth-more) goes through that comparison properly, and the [oldest 2007 Limiteds](/articles/oldest-roblox-limiteds-2007-hats) covers what the first wave actually looks like today.

One thing a low ID does buy you is a story, and stories move prices on thin markets. Being able to say an item predates most of the site is part of why the 2007 and 2009 gems hold attention, a gem being a scarce, high-value Limited. Keep the number as context, and price the item on its copies, its recent sales and what sellers are actually asking. RAP can also sit below what traders actually pay on families where copies rarely trade, so check the [items leaderboard](/items-leaderboard) and the live asks before acting on any of it.

None of this is financial advice. Limited prices move on thin volume, and a single listing can distort what an item looks like to be worth.

Figures in this article come from RBX Invest catalog data covering 203,046 items with a recorded creation date, as of September 29, 2026, from Roblox's published asset data for each item's creation timestamp, and from Roblox's Developer Forum announcement on non-sequential asset ID generation dated July 22, 2024.

## FAQ

### How do I find a Roblox item's asset ID?
Take the number out of the item's link. A catalog address reads `roblox.com/catalog/1029025/The-Classic-ROBLOX-Fedora`, and 1029025 is the asset ID. RBX Invest item pages use the same number, so that hat is at /item/1029025 here.

### What year is Roblox asset ID 1029025 from?
2007. It belongs to The Classic ROBLOX Fedora, created on May 31, 2007, and any ID between 1,028,606 and 1,286,496 in our catalog dates to that year.

### Do all Roblox asset IDs run in order?
Every ID of 11 digits or fewer does. Across 203,046 catalog items with creation dates, each year from 2007 to 2024 occupies its own block of numbers with no overlap into the previous year. IDs of 14 digits or more, issued from mid-August 2024, are random.

### Why do new Roblox items have 14-digit asset IDs?
Roblox announced on July 22, 2024 that newly created assets would get non-sequential IDs expanding from 11 digits to 14 or more, for scalability and to make unreleased assets harder to find by guessing the next number. The switch landed in mid-August 2024.

### Does a low asset ID mean a Roblox Limited is worth more?
No. The ten classic Limiteds with the highest RAP (Recent Average Price, Roblox's rolling average of recent sale prices) in our catalog were created between 2010 and 2015, and none of them come from 2007 to 2009. Copy counts and demand set prices, and the median 2007 Limited holds a RAP of 14,630 R$.

### Is the asset ID the same as an item's release date?
The asset ID tracks when the file was created on Roblox, which usually comes days or weeks before the item hit the catalog. When Roblox converts an old offsale item into a Limited, the gap can be years.

### Do Roblox bundles use asset IDs?
Bundles are numbered on their own separate counter, and their pages live at `roblox.com/bundles/`, so the year chart does not apply. Classic faces are the case that catches people out, since the 2026 dynamic head migration rebuilt them as bundles with 15-digit numbers.

### Can I date a UGC Limited by its asset ID?
Only ones created before mid-August 2024, which covers UGC Limiteds from the April 2023 launch up to the switch. A UGC Limited, meaning a Limited made by a community creator rather than by Roblox, that was uploaded after the switch carries a random 14-digit or 15-digit ID with no date in it.
