*Roblox Limited avatar backgrounds are profile backdrops with fixed copies: 33 exist, 24 launched at 200 R$, and resale opens 30 days after a drop.*

Roblox Limited avatar backgrounds are profile backdrops released in fixed numbers, and they resell under the same rules as every other UGC Limited. RBX Invest's catalog tracks 33 of them as of October 1, 2026. The first one appeared on August 13, 2026, 24 of the 33 launched at 200 Robux (written R$), and 61,575 copies exist across the whole category. A Limited is an avatar item with a fixed supply that players buy and sell from each other once the creator's copies run out. Resale on a background opens up to 30 days after a launch purchase, and whoever resells it keeps 50% of the sale price.

**Quick answer:** A Limited avatar background is a UGC Limited, meaning a limited-run item published by an independent creator, and it sits behind your avatar on your Roblox profile. You can resell one once its holding period ends, you can't trade it, and supply decides the price. The 3,000-copy drops mostly sit near their 200 R$ original price while the 33-copy and 250-copy drops carry real premiums.

## What is a Roblox avatar background, and do you need Roblox Plus to use one?

An avatar background is the image that sits behind your avatar on your Roblox profile, and no, you don't need a subscription to wear one. Roblox introduced them on July 22, 2026 in a Developer Forum announcement about expanding Roblox Plus. Any player can buy a background on the Marketplace and equip it, and Roblox's own themed set starts at 200 Robux. Roblox Plus subscribers also get an exclusive free set, and since September 10, 2026 they can generate a background from a text prompt. Roblox says generated backgrounds can't be sold or listed on the Marketplace, so those never reach the resale market.

Creators came next. On August 6, 2026 Roblox opened a pilot program for creating and selling avatar backgrounds on the Marketplace, with applications closing on August 13, 2026. A creator had to be ID-verified, hold an active Roblox Plus subscription, have a clean moderation and DMCA record, have published at least one Marketplace item in the previous 30 days, and sign an NDA. Roblox said it plans to open background publishing to all creators in the coming months.

That gated start explains the shape of the market. Eight creators and groups account for every Limited background in the catalog, and the oldest one is seven weeks old.

## Are Limited avatar backgrounds real Limiteds? Yes, under UGC Limited rules

A Limited background is a UGC Limited, so the UGC rules apply to it. Those rules differ from the ones covering [classic Limiteds](/articles/classic-limiteds-vs-ugc-limiteds), the Roblox-made items like the Dominus hats. Five rules matter before you buy one.

**You keep half.** Roblox's [marketplace fees and commissions documentation](https://create.roblox.com/docs/marketplace/marketplace-fees-and-commissions) splits a UGC Limited resale four ways: 50% to the reseller, 10% to the original creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. Break-even is double your cost. Buy [Liminal Tree](/item/130405929125243) at its 1,000 R$ original price and you need a 2,000 R$ sale to get your money back.

**You wait before selling.** Roblox's documentation puts up to a 30-day holding period on a Limited bought from its creator, and up to 7 days on one bought from a reseller. A holding period is a lock on the item: it stays in your inventory and you can't resell it until the clock runs out. Every background in our catalog came up for resale exactly 30 days after its drop date, so the earliest ones only became sellable on September 12, 2026. Our guide to [Roblox Limited holding periods](/articles/roblox-limited-holding-periods) covers the edge cases.

**You can't trade one.** Roblox's player-to-player trade system handles classic Limiteds only. A background changes hands through Marketplace resales and nothing else.

**Selling needs Roblox Plus.** An active Roblox Plus subscription is required on the seller's account to list a resale. The buyer needs nothing.

**The subscriber discount skips resales.** The Roblox Plus purchase discount, 10% off for a subscriber's first two months and 20% from the third consecutive month, applies when you buy from the creator. It never applies to a resale purchase.

## Which Limited avatar backgrounds are worth the most?

The highest RAP in the category belongs to \[Limited\] Rainbow Diamond Rich Gem Rare Background at 4,554 R$, with Liminal Tree close behind at 4,249 R$. RAP is Recent Average Price, Roblox's smoothed average of what an item has recently sold for. The category is too young for a settled trader consensus on value, so this table ranks by RAP. The lowest ask is the cheapest copy a reseller currently has listed.

Three numbers in that table deserve a warning. The Silly Burger Background has sold once at 20 R$ and sits with a 5,000 R$ ask against 11 copies. Masterpiece carries a 7,000 R$ ask while 54 of its 60 copies are still unsold at 500 R$. The Golden Angel background has a 2,840 R$ ask while 2,214 of its 3,000 copies are still on sale from the creator at 200 R$. Asks like those are projected, meaning priced far above anything the item has actually sold for. Our explainer on [projected items](/articles/projected-items-roblox-limiteds-explained) shows how to spot them before you overpay.

Rainbow Diamond shows the other side of creator pricing. Its run sold down to three copies, and the creator now asks 4,950 R$ for those, well above the 200 R$ the rest of the run went for. Creators can reprice whatever stock they still hold, so the price you see on a catalog page is not always the price other owners paid.

## Why a 33-copy background beats a 3,000-copy one: supply

![Liminal Tree](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/130405929125243?size=420)

Liminal Tree released 33 copies at 1,000 R$, sold out, and its cheapest listing now asks 29,998 R$ against a 4,249 R$ RAP. That gap between RAP and ask is what a thin market looks like. Almost nobody sells, so the few sellers name their price, and a single sale moves the average a long way.

Nineteen of the 33 backgrounds have a 3,000-copy run, and 33,104 copies across the category are still unsold at the creator's price. When a reseller lists one of those for 25,000 R$, as two have done with the White Gold Marble background, a buyer can get the same background from the creator for 200 R$. The listing is decoration.

The drops that produced real resale premiums were the small prints, meaning runs with few copies. Classic Egg Drop released 250 copies at 200 R$ and carries a 615 R$ RAP. Sakura Sunset released 500 and sits at 428 R$. Banland released 666 and sits at 423 R$. For how that scarcity compares with the whole market, the [rarest Limiteds collection](/collections/rarest-limiteds) ranks every Limited with 10 copies or fewer.

Resale depth tells the same story from the other side. The Premium Black Diamond Crystal background has 74 copies listed at once, the deepest resale ladder in the category, and its cheapest ask sits at 899 R$ against an 813 R$ RAP. A resale ladder is just the stack of copies resellers have for sale, cheapest first, and sellers that numerous keep each other honest.

## Who publishes Limited avatar backgrounds?

![Backgrounds Incorporated](https://img.rbxinvest.com/group/188233224?size=150)

Eight creators, and one of them dominates. Backgrounds Incorporated published 16 of the 33 Limited backgrounds, covering 48,000 of the 61,575 copies, almost all of them 3,000-copy runs at 200 R$. The rest of the field is much smaller: cloakedyoshi has 7 drops totalling 2,779 copies, RELICSxyz has 3, Dapper Design has 2, and Waffle's UGC, The Silly Burgers UGC, idelww and \[clothing club\] have one each.

That concentration matters when you decide what to buy. A creator who releases 3,000 copies of every design is selling volume, and volume caps resale value. The creators who released 11, 15, 33 and 60 copies made items that can actually appreciate, though a tiny run also means you may wait months for a buyer. You can see how any creator's whole catalog has performed on the [creators leaderboard](/creators-leaderboard).

## Should you buy a Limited avatar background right now?

Treat the category as early and thin. Resale has only been open since September 12, 2026, 22 of the 33 items have cleared their holding period, and three weeks of trading on a handful of items is not enough history to price anything with confidence. Two kinds of buy make sense today.

If you want a background because you like it, buy from the creator. Twenty-four of these launched at 200 R$ and thousands of copies are still available at that price, which beats every reseller ask on the same items.

If you are buying to resell, the small runs are the only ones worth a look, and you need a 2x move just to break even after the 50% fee. A 200 R$ copy has to sell for 400 R$ before you make a single Robux. That math kills most flips in this category. Both items that cleared it, Rainbow Diamond and Liminal Tree, sold down to single digits of remaining stock first.

Backgrounds carry one structural weakness worth naming. They are profile decoration, so demand depends on people visiting profiles, while hats and faces get seen in every experience a player joins. If you follow the category, watch for the first sold-out run under 100 copies from a creator with a track record, and check the [items leaderboard](/items-leaderboard) for where these rank against the rest of the market. Listings below RAP across the catalog show up in the [Deals](/deals) feed, which needs a signed-in account.

None of this is financial advice. Limiteds are virtual items, prices move on taste alone, and a seven-week-old category can reprice hard in either direction.

## FAQ

### What is a Roblox Limited avatar background?

A Roblox Limited avatar background is a profile backdrop released in a fixed number of copies by an independent creator, which players can resell to each other once the creator's copies are gone. RBX Invest tracks 33 of them as of October 1, 2026, the oldest recorded on August 13, 2026.

### Can you resell Roblox avatar backgrounds?

Yes. Limited avatar backgrounds resell on the Marketplace like any UGC Limited, and our catalog records resale listings on 17 of the 33. The reseller keeps 50% of the sale price, with 10% to the original creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate and 30% to Roblox, per Roblox's marketplace fees documentation.

### Can you trade avatar backgrounds on Roblox?

No. Roblox's player-to-player trade system supports classic Roblox-made Limiteds only, so a UGC Limited background can change hands only through a Marketplace resale.

### How long before you can resell an avatar background you bought?

Up to 30 days if you bought it from the creator, and up to 7 days if you bought it from a reseller. Every Limited background in the RBX Invest catalog became resale-eligible exactly 30 days after its drop date.

### Do you need Roblox Plus for an avatar background?

Not to buy or equip one. Any player can purchase a Marketplace background and wear it. Roblox Plus subscribers get an exclusive free set plus a monthly allowance of backgrounds generated from text prompts, and a seller needs an active Roblox Plus subscription to list a resale.

### How much do Limited avatar backgrounds cost?

Most started at 200 Robux: 24 of the 33 drops used that price, 7 launched free, and the highest original price on record is 1,000 Robux. Resale asks run from 200 R$ up to 29,998 R$ for the 33-copy Liminal Tree.

### Which Limited avatar background has the highest RAP?

\[Limited\] Rainbow Diamond Rich Gem Rare Background, at 4,554 R$ as of October 1, 2026. Liminal Tree follows at 4,249 R$ from only 33 copies, and the Black Gold Marble background is third at 1,848 R$.

### Are Limited avatar backgrounds a good investment?

They are a speculative one. The category is seven weeks old, 33,104 copies sit unsold at creator prices, and the 50% resale fee means an item has to double before you break even. The runs that gained value were the small ones, and plenty of large ones have not moved off their original price.
