*The costliest Roblox trading mistakes are counting your collection in RAP and skipping the fee math: a UGC Limited must double before you break even.*

The most expensive Roblox trading mistakes come from one habit: treating RAP as money you already have. RAP, short for Recent Average Price, is a smoothed average of every past sale of a Limited (a Limited is an item Roblox no longer sells new, with a fixed number of copies that owners can resell). RAP tells you what buyers have already paid. What you walk away with is a different number, because Roblox's marketplace documentation gives a reseller 50% of a community-made Limited's resale price, so that item has to double in price before you break even. Supply makes it harder still: 51 of the 2,561 classic Limiteds in the RBX Invest catalog have no copy listed for sale at any price right now, so a confident-looking RAP can sit on an item with no live market around it.

**Quick answer:** The costliest Roblox trading mistakes are counting your collection in RAP, and buying without doing the break-even math on the resale fee. A classic Limited returns 70% of the sale price to you and a UGC Limited returns 50%, so your item has to gain roughly 1.43x or 2x before a sale puts you ahead.

| Question | Classic Limited | UGC Limited |
|---|---|---|
| Who published it | Roblox | An independent community creator |
| Your share of a resale | 70% | 50% |
| Price needed to break even | about 1.43x your cost | 2x your cost |
| Tradeable player to player | Yes | No |
| Hold before you can resell | 7 days after a resale purchase | up to 30 days from launch, 7 days on a resale |

A UGC Limited is a limited-run item published by an independent community creator, and a classic Limited is one Roblox published itself. The two behave differently enough that a habit which works on one will quietly cost you money on the other.

## Is your RAP total what your collection is worth? No, it is what buyers already paid

RAP moves slowly on purpose. Every sale pulls it about a tenth of the way toward the new price, so a single lucky sale barely budges it and a single panic sale barely dents it. That smoothing is useful for spotting a trend and poor for answering "what can I get today".

Two things sit between a RAP number and Robux in your balance. The resale fee takes its cut, and a buyer has to actually turn up at your price. A collection showing 1,000,000 RAP in classic Limiteds is worth about 700,000 Robux if every item sold instantly at its RAP, and nothing sells instantly at its RAP.

Treat your RAP total as a tracking number you watch over time. Our guide to [valuing a Roblox inventory](/articles/how-to-value-your-roblox-inventory) walks through layering fees and demand on top of it, and [what RAP means](/articles/what-is-rap-roblox) covers the formula in more detail.

## What does a Roblox Limited actually pay you? 70% on a classic, 50% on a UGC Limited

This is the number most beginners meet too late. [Roblox's marketplace documentation](https://create.roblox.com/docs/marketplace/marketplace-fees-and-commissions) sets out the split on a community-made Limited resale: 50% to the reseller, 10% to the original creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. You keep half. A classic Roblox-made Limited carries a 30% marketplace fee, leaving you 70%.

Run it with round numbers. You buy a UGC Limited for 1,000 Robux and resell it later at 1,500. You receive 750, so you are down 250 on a sale that looked like a 500 profit. At 2,000 you receive 1,000 and you have broken even. The same 1,000-Robux buy in a classic Limited needs about 1,430 to break even, because 70% of 1,430 is roughly 1,000.

Work out your break-even price before you buy, then decide whether that price looks reachable. If it needs the item to double inside a month, you are relying on hope. The [reseller terminal](/resell) tracks cost basis against live asks for exactly this reason.

## Do fewer copies mean a faster sale? No, thin markets are the hardest to exit

Scarcity gets talked about as if it were the same thing as value. A small copy count tells you supply is tight. Whether anyone wants the item is a separate question, and the answer shows up in whether copies are listed and changing hands.

Four classic Limiteds in a similar RAP band make the point. All figures are from the RBX Invest catalog on October 8, 2026, and the unlisted items were confirmed against Roblox's own economy data.

| Item | Copies | RAP | Lowest ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/148791559?size=150) [Antenna Antlers](/item/148791559) | 15 | 145,650 R$ | None listed |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/62720797?size=150) [Gold Spartan](/item/62720797) | 23 | 114,684 R$ | None listed |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/4390890198?size=150) [Viridian Domino Crown](/item/4390890198) | 2,235 | 120,714 R$ | 120,000 R$ |
| ![](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/1073690?size=150) [JJ5x5's White Top Hat](/item/1073690) | 3,248 | 146,344 R$ | 132,000 R$ |

The Viridian Domino Crown has a live ask of 120,000 against a RAP of 120,714, so the market is quoting you a price in real time. Antenna Antlers has 15 copies and a RAP of 145,650 built from a handful of trades across years, with nobody offering a copy today. Both numbers are real. Only one of them is a price you could act on this afternoon.

Thin items can be excellent long holds, and plenty of collectors want them precisely because almost nobody can get one. The mistake is buying one with Robux you expect back next week. Browse the [rarest Limiteds](/collections/rarest-limiteds) with that in mind, and check the [items leaderboard](/items-leaderboard) to see which items have actual movement behind their numbers.

## Can you resell a Limited right after buying it? No, a holding period comes first

Buy a Limited and you cannot immediately flip it. Roblox's marketplace documentation describes a holding period of up to 30 days after purchase, during which the item cannot be resold. A holding period is a waiting time Roblox enforces between getting an item and being allowed to sell it on.

In practice the length depends on how you got it. Buying a UGC Limited at launch from the creator starts the long clock, while buying one already on the resale market runs a shorter one of 7 days. Classic Limiteds carry a 2-day hold after a trade and 7 days after a resale purchase.

Beginners get caught by this when a price spikes two days after they buy and they cannot sell into it. Plan the hold into any purchase you are making for a quick turnaround. The full breakdown lives in our [holding periods guide](/articles/roblox-limited-holding-periods).

## Why do beginners overpay for projected items?

A projected item is one whose RAP has been pushed far above what people will really pay, usually by a few trades between accounts at silly prices. The RAP looks impressive and the resale floor, meaning the lowest price anyone is currently asking, sits far below it.

The tell is a wide gap between RAP and the lowest ask, with few recent sales near the RAP. Someone offering you a trade will quote the RAP, because the RAP flatters their side. Price the item off what copies are actually listed and selling for.

Our explainer on [projected items](/articles/projected-items-roblox-limiteds-explained) covers how the inflation gets manufactured and how to check an item in under a minute.

## Should you buy every UGC Limited launch? Only 36.8% ever reach double

Launch day feels like free money when an item sells out in seconds. The catalog says otherwise. Of the 35,678 paid UGC Limiteds in the RBX Invest catalog with a recorded RAP, 36.8% now sit at or above twice their original price. Double is the bar that matters, because 50% of the resale price is what a reseller keeps, so anything under 2x means a launch buyer who sells is behind.

Scarcity is not the missing ingredient either. The median UGC Limited in our catalog has 10 copies, against 1,251 for the median classic Limited. Community-made items are far scarcer per item, and most of them still never double.

Roblox also caps how many copies one account can buy, which the marketplace documentation describes as protection against automated purchases. Picking launches well means studying the creator's past drops instead of racing the clock. Signed-in members can watch new listings and price moves on the [deal feed](/deals), and cheaper entry points are gathered under [Limiteds under 1,000 Robux](/collections/limiteds-under-1000).

## Is it safe to trade outside Roblox? No, and you give up every protection

Every legitimate trade and resale happens through Roblox's own systems. Reselling a Limited requires an active Roblox Plus subscription on the selling account, and trading works between two accounts that both have it. Roblox's marketplace documentation is also clear that only Roblox-created Limiteds are tradeable, so a UGC Limited will never appear in a trade window and changes hands only through a Marketplace resale.

The moment a deal moves to a chat app, a promise to pay afterwards, or an item sent "first" on trust, you have no record and no recourse. Swapping Limiteds for anything outside Roblox also breaks the rules you are relying on for protection. We cover the common setups in [trading scams and how to avoid them](/articles/roblox-trading-scams-how-to-avoid-them) and [what cross-trading is](/articles/what-is-cross-trading-roblox).

## A short checklist before you spend

- Work out the break-even price at 70% or 50% before you buy, and write it down.
- Check whether copies are listed and selling, so you know an exit exists.
- Compare the lowest ask against RAP, and distrust a big gap.
- Add the holding period to any plan that depends on selling soon.
- Keep the whole deal inside Roblox.

None of this is financial advice. Robux spent on collectibles can lose value, so only spend what you are comfortable losing.

Marketplace rules, fee splits, holding periods, trading eligibility and purchase limits in this article follow Roblox's marketplace documentation on create.roblox.com, checked October 8, 2026; copy counts, RAP, lowest asks and catalog percentages come from RBX Invest catalog data the same day, with unlisted items confirmed against Roblox's economy data.

## FAQ

### What is the biggest mistake new Roblox traders make?

Counting a collection in RAP and assuming that total is spendable. RAP is a smoothed average of past sales, and a sale returns 70% of the price on a classic Limited or 50% on a UGC Limited, so your realistic total is well below your RAP total before a buyer has even agreed to a price.

### How much do you actually keep when you sell a Roblox Limited?

You keep 70% of the sale price on a classic Roblox-made Limited, after a 30% marketplace fee. On a community-made UGC Limited you keep 50%, with 10% going to the original creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate and 30% to Roblox, according to Roblox's marketplace documentation.

### Does a low copy count make a Roblox Limited more valuable?

No. A low copy count means supply is tight, which is separate from whether buyers want the item. The median UGC Limited in the RBX Invest catalog has just 10 copies, and only 36.8% of paid UGC Limiteds have reached twice their original price.

### Can you resell a Roblox Limited immediately after buying it?

No. Roblox's marketplace documentation sets a holding period of up to 30 days after buying a Limited, during which it cannot be resold. Buying on the resale market runs a shorter 7-day hold, and classic Limiteds carry a 2-day hold after a trade.

### Can you trade UGC Limiteds on Roblox?

No. Roblox's marketplace documentation states that only Roblox-created Limiteds are tradeable. UGC Limiteds change hands exclusively through Marketplace resales, so they never appear in a player-to-player trade window.

### What is a projected item on Roblox?

A projected item is one whose RAP has been inflated far above what buyers will really pay, usually through trades between cooperating accounts at inflated prices. You spot it by a wide gap between the RAP and the lowest current ask, with few genuine sales near the RAP.

### Do you need Roblox Plus to resell a Limited?

Yes. Roblox's documentation states that Roblox Plus subscribers can trade and resell Limited items, so the selling account needs an active subscription. The buyer of a resale does not need one.

### Why does an item show a RAP but no price to buy?

Because no owner currently has a copy listed. RAP is built from past sales and survives long after the last listing disappears. In the RBX Invest catalog, 51 of 2,561 classic Limiteds have no copy listed for sale at any price, including items with six-figure RAPs.
