*Roblox's Shutter Shades series has 38 items and six classic Limiteds. See every Limited pair's copies, live RAP and lowest ask as of September 2026.*

Roblox's Shutter Shades began in August 2009 as a 300 Robux catalog joke and grew into a family of 38 face accessories, six of which are Limiteds. A Limited is an item Roblox stopped selling after a fixed number of copies, which owners can then resell and trade forever. The six are the [Blue Sparkle Time Shutter Shades](/item/2566018860), Snowflake, Heart, Pumpkin, Bluesteel and Bombastic. As of September 18, 2026, their RAP runs from 2,478 R$ on the Bombastic up to 151,030 R$ on the Blue Sparkle Time, and the cheapest live listing anywhere in the family is 2,440 R$.

**Quick answer:** Six Shutter Shades are classic Limiteds: Blue Sparkle Time (192 copies), Snowflake (198), Heart (960), Pumpkin (1,415), Bluesteel (7,996) and Bombastic (8,081). The other Shutter Shades are ordinary catalog items, and four of the oldest are still on sale from Roblox for 123 to 333 Robux.

| Series fact | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Series name | Shutter Shades |
| Creator | Roblox |
| First release | Shutter Shades, August 12, 2009 |
| Members | 38 items, six of them Limited |
| Limited members | Heart, Pumpkin, Snowflake, Bluesteel, Bombastic, Blue Sparkle Time |
| Copies minted across the six | 18,842 |
| RAP range, September 2026 | 2,478 to 151,030 R$ |
| Cheapest live ask | 2,440 R$ (Bombastic Shutter Shades) |

All six are classic Limiteds, which means Roblox published them itself. That matters for one practical reason: classic Limiteds can be traded player to player, while UGC Limiteds, the ones community creators make, change hands only through Marketplace resales. You can see the whole group ranked live against Roblox's other in-house face items on the [classic face accessories collection](/collections/classic-face-accessories).

## What are Shutter Shades on Roblox? A 2009 joke item that turned into 38 pairs

Shutter shades are the slatted plastic glasses that were everywhere in late-2000s music videos, and Roblox put its own pair in the catalog on August 12, 2009. The description Roblox wrote for them is still the best summary of the whole line: "They don't protect you from the sun, and when you wear them you can't see where you are going. I'm actually not sure why anyone would ever want a pair. You guys make no sense."

People wanted a lot of pairs. Roblox recolored the mesh again and again over the next 13 years, and the Roblox Wiki's [Shutter Shades series page](https://roblox.fandom.com/wiki/Shutter_Shades_%28series%29) counted 38 of them as of September 2024, split between plain recolors, remeshed versions like the Pumpkin and the Snowflake, and shape variants like the Heart. That count is community-maintained, though it lines up with what our own catalog data shows: six Limiteds and a long tail of ordinary items.

### The four oldest pairs never went Limited, and Roblox still sells them

![Neon Green Shutter Shades](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/15318115?size=420)

Four early Shutter Shades are still for sale from Roblox today at their catalog prices, confirmed against Roblox's own item records on September 18, 2026:

- Shutter Shades, the original white pair, August 12, 2009, 300 R$
- [Neon Green Shutter Shades](/item/15318115), August 31, 2009, 123 R$
- [Seeing Red Shutter Shades](/item/25165538), April 2010, 333 R$
- [Navy Shutter Shades](/item/28554581), June 2010, 275 R$

Anyone can buy those four right now, which is exactly why they sit outside the trading market. An item with no copy cap has no resale value. If you just want the look on your avatar for pocket change, the Neon Green pair at 123 Robux is the cheapest way in, and it has been on sale for 17 years.

One confusing detail worth knowing before you shop: Roblox later released a near-identical pair called the Neon Greener Shutter Shades as a gift card redemption item, and the Roblox Wiki records the 2009 original being renamed from "Neon Green Shuttershades" to its current spelling in 2018. Two green pairs, two different items. Check the asset before you buy. Our [gift card items guide](/articles/roblox-gift-card-items-guide) covers how that redemption line works.

## Which Shutter Shades are Limited? These six, ranked by RAP

Here is every Limited pair with live market data. RAP stands for recent average price, a smoothed running average of every sale an item has ever had, where each new sale drags the number a tenth of the way toward that sale price. The lowest ask is the cheapest copy anyone currently has listed, which traders also call the resale floor. Our [RAP explainer](/articles/what-is-rap-roblox) walks through the formula with worked numbers.

| Item | Released | Launch price | Copies | RAP (R$) | Lowest ask (R$) |

The spread across one family is the striking part. RBX Invest tracks 163 classic Limited face accessories, and these six land at ranks 15, 17, 41, 81, 116 and 127 by RAP. One series covers most of the price ladder in its own category, from a pair a new trader can afford to one whose cheapest copy costs more than most people will ever hold.

### The Heart and the Snowflake carry serial numbers

![Heart Shutter Shades](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/51243486?size=420)

Roblox sold those two as Limited Unique items, usually written Limited U. Every copy was stamped with its own serial number when it sold, so a Heart Shutter Shades comes marked #1 of 960, or #847 of 960. Low serials, and #1 above all, sell at a premium over the rest of the print run, which is the total number of copies Roblox minted. Our [serial numbers guide](/articles/roblox-limited-serial-numbers-explained) explains how much that premium is usually worth.

The Heart launched in May 2011 at 500 Robux, with an original stock of 1,000 copies by the Roblox Wiki's record. Our catalog data and Roblox's own item record both report 960 copies today, slightly under that figure, which is normal for old Limiteds where some copies sat in accounts that were later deleted. Its catalog description on Roblox is a single quoted line, "I keep my loved locked down, my love locked down", and collectors have long read it as a Kanye West lyric.

## Why is the Snowflake Shutter Shades listed at 2,500,000 R$ with a 137,474 RAP?

![Snowflake Shutter Shades](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/67201161?size=420)

Because RAP only moves when a copy actually sells, and Snowflake copies almost never do. With 198 in existence and a holiday design people buy to keep, the number can sit frozen for years while the owners who might sell keep raising their price. Traders call that a stale RAP. The 2,500,000 R$ figure is the cheapest copy listed on Roblox as of September 18, 2026, and it is 18 times the RAP.

A gap that wide is a warning about liquidity. Nobody has proven anyone will pay 2.5 million for a pair of pixel sunglasses. What it does tell you is that no owner is willing to part with one cheaply, which is the real signal of scarcity in a thin market. The Blue Sparkle Time pair shows the same pattern in milder form: a 489,999 R$ ask against a 151,030 R$ RAP.

The Snowflake was a December 2011 holiday release at 1,000 Robux, and it is the smallest print run in the family after the Blue Sparkle Time. It is also a Limited U, so serials apply.

## What happened in 2014: one gift box, four pairs of shades, two Limiteds

![Bluesteel Shutter Shades](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/190247659?size=420)

December 2014 gave the family its strangest chapter. Roblox ran a holiday gift event where players opened boxes for random prizes, and one box was the Restricted Gift of Short Supply. Its catalog description, still readable on Roblox today, says the gift "was awarded to users with at least 20 limited items" and that inside "you find... Shutter Shades (one of four materials - Bombastic, Viridian, Bluesteel, or Black Iron)."

Four materials came out of that box on December 15, 2014. Two of them, Bluesteel and Bombastic, are Limiteds now with about 8,000 copies each. The other two, Viridian and Black Iron, are off sale and carry no Limited tag at all, which Roblox's item records confirm. Their owners keep them on their avatars and that is the end of it, because an item without the Limited tag cannot be listed for resale or put into a trade.

That split is a good illustration of how the tag works. Being rare, old and impossible to get again does not create a market by itself. Roblox has to mark an item as collectible, and when it does so years after release the item's whole price history starts from that moment. Two of the six pairs here got the tag long after launch, the Pumpkin and the Blue Sparkle Time, and community records date both conversions to October 2022, during the wave of older items Roblox converted. Our [guide to offsale items going Limited](/articles/offsale-roblox-items-going-limited) covers how that process works and what it did to prices. The gift box itself has a longer story in our [mystery gift boxes history](/articles/roblox-mystery-gift-boxes-history).

## Why does the Blue Sparkle Time pair lead the family?

![Blue Sparkle Time Shutter Shades](https://img.rbxinvest.com/item/2566018860?size=420)

Two reasons, and the second one matters more than the design.

Supply is the obvious one. At 192 copies it is the smallest print run in the family, sold in a short window during Roblox's Black Friday sale in November 2018 at 5,000 Robux. Roblox gave it the best description in the series: "I wear my shutter shades at night, because any time is Sparkle Time."

The bigger reason is the Sparkle Time name. Sparkle Time is Roblox's glittering texture treatment, and the fedoras wearing it are among the most valuable items in the game. Collectors who chase that texture across every slot will pay up for a face accessory version, and there is exactly one. You can see the rest of the texture's family in our [Sparkle Time series history](/articles/sparkle-time-series-history-roblox) and on the [Sparkle Time collection](/collections/sparkle-time). The same effect lifts the Bluesteel pair, which belongs to the [Bluesteel material line](/articles/bluesteel-series-history-roblox), and the Bombastic pair, part of the [Bombastic line](/articles/bombastic-series-history-roblox).

## Should you buy a pair of Shutter Shades in 2026?

For a new trader, the bottom of this family is one of the friendlier places to start. A Bombastic pair at 2,440 R$ or a Bluesteel at 3,454 R$ buys you a real classic Limited with a live resale market, an 11-year history and roughly 8,000 copies in circulation. Items with thousands of copies move far more often than 200-copy items, so you can usually get out again. Browse the rest of that price band on the [Limiteds under 10,000 Robux collection](/collections/limiteds-under-10000).

Do the exit math before you buy anything here. A classic Limited resale carries a 30% marketplace fee, so you keep 70% of the sale price and need roughly 1.43x your purchase price to break even. On a 3,000 R$ pair that means selling at about 4,290 R$ before you have made a single Robux. Our [marketplace fees breakdown](/articles/roblox-marketplace-fees-explained) has the full split, and Roblox's own [marketplace fees and commissions documentation](https://create.roblox.com/docs/marketplace/marketplace-fees-and-commissions) is the source for how community-created Limiteds are divided differently. Buying on resale also locks a classic Limited for seven days before you can list it again, and a copy received in a trade is locked for two; our [holding periods guide](/articles/roblox-limited-holding-periods) covers both. Selling at all requires an active Roblox Plus subscription on your account, and trading requires one on both sides.

The top of the family is a different proposition. At a 489,999 R$ ask for the Blue Sparkle Time and 2,500,000 R$ for the Snowflake, you are paying well above any recent sale on items that might not trade again for months. That can work out over years and it can also sit dead. None of this is financial advice, and on a 198-copy item a single motivated seller can reset the price overnight.

If you want the shutter-shade look without the Limited price, remember the four originals Roblox still sells for 123 to 333 Robux. Community creators have also published their own shutter shades as UGC Limiteds, most of them cheap, though those can be bought and sold but never traded. The [UGC face accessories collection](/collections/ugc-limited-face-accessories) lists what is currently around.

For tracking the family, the asks tell you more than the RAP does. Check the [items leaderboard](/items-leaderboard) for movement and the [Deals feed](/deals) for the moment an owner lists below the pack, which is where the bottom half of this family occasionally gets interesting.

Market figures in this article come from RBX Invest catalog data and Roblox's own item records as of September 18, 2026, release dates, prices and item descriptions from Roblox's catalog, series membership from the Roblox Wiki, and fee rules from Roblox's marketplace documentation.

## FAQ

### What are Shutter Shades in Roblox?

Shutter Shades are a series of Roblox face accessories that copy the slatted plastic glasses popular in the late 2000s. Roblox published the first pair on August 12, 2009 for 300 Robux and has released dozens of recolors and reshapes since, 38 items in total by the Roblox Wiki's September 2024 count. Six of them are Limiteds.

### How many Shutter Shades are Limited?

Six. The Blue Sparkle Time Shutter Shades (192 copies), Snowflake Shutter Shades (198), Heart Shutter Shades (960), Pumpkin Shutter Shades (1,415), Bluesteel Shutter Shades (7,996) and Bombastic Shutter Shades (8,081), for 18,842 copies between them. Every other pair in the series is an ordinary catalog item with no resale market.

### Which Shutter Shades are the most valuable?

The Blue Sparkle Time Shutter Shades lead on RAP at 151,030 R$ as of September 18, 2026, with the Snowflake Shutter Shades just behind at 137,474 R$. By asking price the order flips: the cheapest Snowflake listed on Roblox is 2,500,000 R$, against 489,999 R$ for the Blue Sparkle Time.

### Can you still buy Shutter Shades from Roblox?

Yes, four of them. The original white Shutter Shades (300 R$), Neon Green (123 R$), Seeing Red (333 R$) and Navy (275 R$) are all still on sale from Roblox as of September 2026. They have no copy cap, so they have no resale value, and anyone can own a pair.

### Are the Viridian and Black Iron Shutter Shades Limiteds?

No. They came out of the same December 2014 gift box as the Bluesteel and Bombastic pairs, but Roblox never gave them the Limited tag. Roblox's item records list both as off sale with no collectible status, which means they cannot be resold or traded at any price.

### Why is the Snowflake Shutter Shades' asking price so much higher than its RAP?

Because RAP updates only when a copy sells, and with 198 copies in existence the Snowflake barely trades. Its 137,474 R$ RAP reflects older sales while current owners ask millions. A gap that wide tells you the item is hard to buy, and it does not prove anyone will pay the asking price.

### Do Shutter Shades have serial numbers?

The Heart and the Snowflake do. Roblox sold both as Limited Unique items, so every copy carries its own serial number out of the print run, and low serials trade at a premium. The Pumpkin, Bluesteel, Bombastic and Blue Sparkle Time pairs are plain Limiteds, where all copies are interchangeable.

### What is the cheapest Shutter Shades Limited?

The Bombastic Shutter Shades, listed at 2,440 R$ as of September 18, 2026, with the Bluesteel pair close behind at 3,454 R$. Both came free out of the 2014 gift box and have around 8,000 copies each, which makes them among the more affordable classic Limiteds anyone can actually buy.
