DJ Headphones Series History: Roblox's 70-Copy Gem

The DJ Headphones series began with the 70-copy Double Platinum DJ in 2010. See all nine Roblox Limited recolors with live RAP, copies and asks.

The DJ Headphones series is a family of Roblox hats built from one 2010 design: dome-shaped speakers held on by claw-shaped arms. The original is the Double Platinum DJ, a Limited Unique with 70 copies that Roblox sold for 10,000 Robux on September 17, 2010. Roblox then repainted that same headphone shape more than twenty times over the next decade. Nine of those versions are classic Limiteds, which means Roblox stopped selling them and the only way to get one now is from another player. The Double Platinum DJ leads the family on every measure, carrying a RAP of 523,054 Robux and a lowest reseller ask of 20,000,000 in RBX Invest catalog data as of October 12, 2026. RAP stands for Recent Average Price, Roblox's slow-moving average of what an item has actually sold for.

Quick answer: The DJ Headphones series starts with the Double Platinum DJ, a 70-copy Limited Unique from September 2010 that now carries a 523,054 RAP. Eight other recolors trade as Limiteds, led by Death Metal Headphones at a RAP of 84,742 across 2,740 copies. Two members of the family, the 8-Ball Headphones and the Tigerphones, are still on sale from Roblox for 888 and 500 Robux.

What is the DJ Headphones series on Roblox? One 2010 hat and about twenty recolors

Roblox's catalog in the early 2010s ran on retextures. A retexture is a new paint job on an existing 3D shape, so the company could ship a "new" hat in an afternoon by handing the same headphone model a different color map. The DJ headphone shape got that treatment more than any other audio accessory. The Roblox Wiki's DJ Headphones series page lists 22 members, and two of them, the Earthphones and the McBrighteyes Shamrockin' Headphones, reuse the Double Platinum DJ's exact mesh file.

Most of those 22 never became Limiteds. Thirteen of them stayed ordinary catalog items or went offsale without ever being flipped to Limited status: the 8-Ball, Tigerphones, Ninja, Yeti, Pirate, Stargaze, Santa, Snowflake, Basketball, 7-Ball, 11 Ball, 24k Gold and Arctic Tiger versions. Offsale means Roblox pulled the item from the shop, and an offsale item with no Limited status can't be resold at all. Those versions have no RAP and no market, so they're wearable history and nothing more.

Nine members did go Limited, and those nine are the tradeable family. Their supply runs from 70 copies to 12,268, which is why the price gap between the top and the bottom of this series is close to 450x.

Why is the Double Platinum DJ so expensive? Only 70 copies exist

Double Platinum DJ

Roblox published the Double Platinum DJ on September 17, 2010 at 10,000 Robux. That was an enormous number in 2010, when most hats sold for a few hundred, and Roblox's own item data confirms it as a Limited Unique with 70 copies in existence today.

Limited Unique (traders shorten it to Limited U) means every copy carries a serial number, so an owner can see whether they hold copy 4 of 70 or copy 68 of 70. Low serials usually fetch a premium on top of the item's going rate, which our guide to Roblox serial numbers covers in detail. If the difference between Limited and Limited U is new to you, start with Limited vs Limited U.

The catalog description is pure 2010 humor: "You can only listen to Sandstorm so many times before you lose your mind and end up working in some club in San Francisco. We're talking to you, RobloSam." Players have favorited it 10,240 times, which is a lot of attention for an item almost nobody can own.

Seventy copies puts it in gem territory. A gem is a Limited scarce enough that the copy count alone sets the price, and holders of this one tend to sit on it for years.

Which DJ Headphones Limiteds are worth the most? The nine ranked

Ordered by what traders actually pay, which on this family lines up with RAP order. Copies, RAP and the lowest live ask all come from RBX Invest catalog data on October 12, 2026. An ask is the cheapest price a holder has an item listed at right now.

Item Copies RAP Lowest ask Released
Double Platinum DJ 70 523,054 20,000,000 Sep 17, 2010
Death Metal Headphones 2,740 84,742 96,899 Oct 15, 2014
Hazardous Material Headphones 495 36,117 51,500 Oct 18, 2011
Halloween Headphones 740 28,850 31,999 Oct 18, 2011
Discophones 946 27,913 25,999 Aug 30, 2011
Earthphones 941 23,327 21,675 Apr 22, 2011
Eyephones 909 5,779 5,000 Aug 30, 2011
McBrighteyes Shamrockin' Headphones 1,976 4,984 4,988 Mar 17, 2011
AmeriPhones 12,268 1,172 1,591 Jun 30, 2011

Six of the nine were sold as Limited Uniques, so their copies carry serial numbers. Death Metal Headphones, McBrighteyes Shamrockin' Headphones and AmeriPhones are regular Limiteds, and their copies have no serial.

Why does the Double Platinum DJ ask 20,000,000 when its RAP reads 523,054?

Because RAP moves slowly and 70-copy items barely trade. Roblox updates RAP with this formula: new RAP equals the old RAP plus one tenth of the gap between the sale price and the old RAP. One sale at a million Robux on an item sitting at 500,000 lifts RAP by about 50,000, so it takes a long run of sales to drag the number anywhere near the real price.

On a family member with 900 copies, sales happen often enough that RAP keeps up. On a 70-copy item where holders go years between selling, RAP sits far below what the item would fetch, and trader consensus puts the Double Platinum DJ well above its printed RAP. The 20,000,000 ask tells you what one holder wants today. The 523,054 RAP tells you where the last handful of completed sales landed. Both numbers are real, and they answer different questions.

Our explainer on why a Limited's price sits above its RAP goes through this gap with more examples, and what RAP is covers the formula from scratch.

Which DJ Headphones Limited is the quiet winner? Death Metal Headphones

Death Metal Headphones

The Death Metal Headphones never had a price tag. Roblox handed them out through a free gift during its October 2014 Halloween event, which the Roblox Wiki documents as the Musical Gift from the Grave on October 15, 2014, and flipped the item to Limited status the following November. Roblox's current data counts 2,740 copies.

That item is now the second most valuable in the family at a RAP of 84,742 with a 96,899 ask, and it's the most-favorited member by a wide margin at 30,030 favorites. Black-and-skulls styling ages well, and a free gift reaches players who would never spend 10,000 Robux on a hat, so a generation of collectors grew up with these in their inventory.

The Hazardous Material Headphones are the other row worth staring at. At 495 copies they're the second-scarcest member of the family, well under Halloween's 740 or Discophones' 946, and their 51,500 ask sits 43% above their 36,117 RAP. When every ask in a market is above RAP, the holders are telling you they think the item is underpriced.

Can you still buy DJ Headphones from Roblox? Yes, two of them for under 1,000 Robux

The 8-Ball Headphones (888 Robux) and the Tigerphones (500 Robux) were both still listed for sale on Roblox when we checked on October 12, 2026. They're regular catalog items, so Roblox mints a new copy every time someone buys one and you can't resell them to another player. You buy them to wear.

That's the cheapest route to this look by a wide margin. The nearest Limited member by ask is the AmeriPhones at 1,591, and the rest of the family starts around 5,000. Nobody will mistake 500-Robux Tigerphones for a Double Platinum DJ, but the shape on your avatar is the same shape.

What about DJ Money and the other DJ-named Limiteds?

DJ Money

DJ Money is a different headphone model, so the wiki keeps it outside the series, and it's the second most valuable DJ-themed Limited Roblox has made. It went up on November 6, 2012 at 250 Robux, sold 205 copies, and the wiki records it as having been available to Builders Club members, the paid membership of that era, before going Limited in November 2022. Today it carries a RAP of 217,483 with a 444,444 ask. Two hundred copies and a 250-Robux launch price is one of the better return stories in the classic catalog.

DJ Remix's Goldphones is the odd one. Our catalog records the asset as created in January 2013, while the wiki documents the actual sale as a timed May 2017 release with 5,000 in stock and a six-hour clock. An asset id tells you when a file was uploaded, which can be years before the item reached the shop, a trap we cover in what an asset id tells you about an item's age. It holds 4,812 copies at a 4,931 RAP and a 5,500 ask.

The Golden Headphones from June 17, 2010 are the family's closest cousin, a separate model that sold for 9,500 Robux and now trade at a 29,979 RAP across 683 copies with a 34,676 ask. Released three months before the Double Platinum DJ at almost the same price, they ended up with nearly ten times the supply and about a seventeenth of the RAP.

What drives prices in this family? Copy count first, then the look

Supply does most of the work here. The AmeriPhones came back on sale around the Fourth of July for several years before Roblox made them a Limited at the 2015 Fourth of July sale, which the wiki dates to July 4, 2015, and all that selling left 12,268 copies. The result is a 1,172 RAP. The Hazardous Material Headphones have 495 copies and a RAP 30 times higher.

Then styling breaks the ties. Discophones and Eyephones launched the same day, August 30, 2011, with nearly identical supply (946 copies against 909). Discophones carry a RAP of 27,913 and Eyephones 5,779. A mirrorball pattern reads as a collectible. A pair of eyeballs with the description "Get it?!?" reads as a joke, and the market priced the joke at a fifth.

The Brighteyes name does some lifting too. The McBrighteyes Shamrockin' Headphones came out of Brighteyes' Treasure Chest on St. Patrick's Day 2011, and they're the cheap entry into a family of items named after a former Roblox employee. Our Brighteyes series history tells that story.

Is the DJ Headphones series worth buying in 2026? The cheap end is liquid, the top is frozen

The bottom three members change hands regularly and cost about as much as a decent UGC hat. AmeriPhones at a 1,591 ask, McBrighteyes at 4,988 and Eyephones at 5,000 are the easiest way to own a piece of the 2011 catalog without a serious budget. These are slow movers in value terms, so buy them because you want to wear them. Trading and reselling both need an active Roblox Plus subscription on your account, so factor that in before you plan to flip anything.

The middle of the table (Earthphones, Discophones, Halloween, Hazardous Material) is the interesting band. Supply sits between 495 and 946 copies, asks run from 21,675 to 51,500, and all four asks sit in the same ballpark as their RAPs, 43% above in the widest case, which usually means a real two-sided market. Scarcity under 1,000 copies on a recognizable 2011 hat is the profile that has held up best across the classic catalog.

The Double Platinum DJ is a different exercise. Seventy copies means you're waiting for a holder to decide to sell, and the gap between a 523,054 RAP and a 20,000,000 ask means price discovery happens one trade at a time. If you're tracking it seriously, set an alert and keep an eye on the items leaderboard.

None of this is financial advice. Limited prices move on sentiment and supply, Roblox can change marketplace rules at any time, and a listed ask is not proof that anyone will pay it.

FAQ

What is the DJ Headphones series in Roblox?

The DJ Headphones series is a family of about 22 Roblox hats that share one headphone design, dome-shaped speakers on claw-shaped arms. The Double Platinum DJ from September 2010 was the first. Nine members are classic Limiteds that players trade, and the rest were ordinary catalog items that never gained Limited status.

What is the rarest DJ Headphones item?

The Double Platinum DJ is the rarest at 70 copies. It's a Limited Unique, so every copy carries a serial number. The second rarest is the Hazardous Material Headphones at 495 copies, followed by the Halloween Headphones at 740.

How much is a Double Platinum DJ worth?

The Double Platinum DJ carries a RAP of 523,054 Robux as of October 12, 2026, and the cheapest copy listed for resale is asking 20,000,000 Robux. Traders value it well above its RAP because only 70 copies exist and sales are rare enough that RAP lags badly behind the real price.

Which DJ Headphones Limited is the cheapest?

The AmeriPhones are the cheapest at a 1,172 RAP with a 1,591 ask, because 12,268 copies exist. Roblox put them back on sale around the Fourth of July for several years before making them a Limited in July 2015, and all that supply caps the price.

Can you still buy DJ Headphones on Roblox?

Yes. The 8-Ball Headphones at 888 Robux and the Tigerphones at 500 Robux were both on sale from Roblox as of October 12, 2026. They're regular catalog items, so copies are unlimited and you can't resell them to other players, but they give you the same look for under 1,000 Robux.

Is DJ Money part of the DJ Headphones series?

DJ Money uses a different headphone model, so the Roblox Wiki lists it outside the series. It's still the second most valuable DJ-themed classic Limited, with 205 copies, a RAP of 217,483 and a 444,444 ask. Roblox published it on November 6, 2012 at 250 Robux.

Why is the Death Metal Headphones RAP so high for a free item?

The Death Metal Headphones came from a free October 2014 Halloween gift, which spread 2,740 copies among players who were active that month, and Roblox has never added more. Free distribution builds attachment, and the item has 30,030 favorites, the most in the family. It now carries a RAP of 84,742 with a 96,899 ask.

Do DJ Headphones Limiteds have serial numbers?

Six of the nine do. The Double Platinum DJ, Earthphones, Discophones, Eyephones, Hazardous Material Headphones and Halloween Headphones were sold as Limited Uniques, which means each copy is serialized. Death Metal Headphones, McBrighteyes Shamrockin' Headphones and AmeriPhones are regular Limiteds with no serials.
