Why Some Roblox UGC Limiteds Can't Be Resold

Some Roblox UGC Limiteds can't be resold because the creator left resale switched off: 66,797 of the 182,313 we track, nearly all free.

Some Roblox UGC Limiteds can never be resold, because the person who made them published them with resale switched off. A UGC Limited is a community-made avatar item sold in a fixed number of copies, and Roblox's publishing flow gives its creator a Resellable setting. Leave that setting off and every copy stays with whoever claimed it. In the RBX Invest catalog on September 25, 2026, 66,797 of the 182,313 UGC Limiteds we track have resale switched off, and 66,183 of those were given away for free.

Quick answer: A UGC Limited can only be resold if its creator turned on the Resellable setting. Roughly 37% of UGC Limiteds have it off, nearly all of them free giveaway items handed out inside experiences, and none of those copies shows a resale listing today.

Why can't you resell some Roblox UGC Limiteds? The creator left resale off

When a creator publishes a Limited, Roblox's publishing documentation lists Resellable as one of the item attributes they choose. The docs put it plainly: if the setting is enabled, users can resell the item, and the creator then earns a 10% commission every time it changes hands. If it is off, the resale button never appears for anyone.

The switch only turns one way. A creator can enable resale later on an item that launched without it, but once enabled it can never be disabled. So an item you can resell today will stay resellable forever, and an item that launched locked may open up one day if its creator decides to flip it.

That single setting is the whole answer to a question people ask constantly: why does my UGC Limited have no Sell button while my friend's does? Your copy is real and the item is genuinely limited, with a fixed number of copies that runs out. Resale was simply never switched on.

Can you resell a free Roblox UGC Limited? Almost never

Free giveaway items are where resale is locked most often. Of the 66,797 resale-off UGC Limiteds in our catalog, 66,183 launched at 0 R$, and 58,991 were only ever available inside experiences. Roughly 600 carry a price, and the priciest of those are novelty listings tagged in the billions of Robux.

Free Limiteds cost their creator real money to publish. Roblox's fee documentation describes a per-unit fee for them, using a hypothetical 100 R$ per unit: list 200 free hats and the creator pays 20,000 R$ up front, and Roblox keeps the entire per-unit fee. Brand activations and event giveaways that mint 100,000 copies are paying for reach. Our read of the pattern is that a run that big would flood any resale market anyway, so the setting stays off.

Six of the largest free runs we track, all with resale switched off:

Item Copies Copies left Released
Play Aura 250,000 225,542 May 26, 2025
Pandy Backpack 157,118 0 Sep 3, 2025
Cross-Court Challenge Aura 142,857 59,940 Sep 1, 2023
The BBC Official VR Headset 102,000 0 May 24, 2024
Billie Jean King Glasses 100,000 66,426 Aug 22, 2023
Figure Egg 100,000 0 Apr 1, 2024

Across the whole resale-off group, 57,414 items have zero copies left. Nobody can claim one from the creator and nobody can buy one from an owner, which makes them some of the most permanently unavailable things on Roblox. That scarcity earns you exactly nothing in Robux.

How do you check whether a Limited can be resold before you buy?

Look for a price from another player. Every Limited with resale enabled shows a resale floor, meaning the cheapest copy currently listed by an owner, and a list of sellers behind it. An item with copies in circulation and no floor at all is the pattern to watch for.

Three quick checks that take about ten seconds:

  • Open the item on RBX Invest. An item page like the one for Cross-Court Challenge Aura shows the resale floor and listing history when they exist, so a blank one on a well-owned item is a flag.
  • Check where it came from. If you claimed it inside an experience and never paid Robux for it, assume resale is off until you see a floor.
  • Browse UGC Limiteds in stock and sold-out UGC Limiteds to see how a normal resale market looks for comparison.

The Deals feed filters for discounts against live resale floors, so items with resale switched off never show up there. Deals needs a signed-in account.

What are the rules when resale is enabled?

Once resale is on, the item follows the standard Marketplace rules. Roblox's fee documentation splits a community-made Limited's resale price four ways: 50% to the reseller, 10% to the original creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. You keep half of what a buyer pays, so a flip only breaks even at twice your cost.

The other rules worth knowing before you plan a flip:

  • Reselling needs an active Roblox Plus subscription on the seller's account. The buyer needs nothing.
  • A holding period, the stretch of time Roblox blocks resale after an item lands in your inventory, applies to every copy. Buy at launch from the creator and it runs up to 30 days; buy from another player and it runs up to 7. Our holding period guide covers the classic side too.
  • Roblox's documentation states that reselling community-made Limiteds is unavailable for accounts based in Japan.
  • A per-user purchase limit only applies to the creator's original listing. People can still buy extra copies from resellers.

If you do plan to flip, our reseller terminal tracks where each of your listings sits against the rest of the ladder. Watch out for lookalikes here. Resale-off items include a batch of copycat names built from swapped letters, and those are covered in our guide to fake Limiteds and name squatting. None of this is financial advice; Limited prices move and copies you buy to flip can lose value.

How much of the UGC Limited market can actually be traded?

Headline counts overstate the market. Our catalog tracks 182,313 UGC Limiteds, of which 115,516 have resale enabled, and 83,418 of those carry a live ask, meaning a copy listed for sale by its owner. The rest sit in inventories with no way out.

The classic side stays much smaller and much more liquid. We track just under 3,000 classic Limiteds, the Roblox-made items from the old catalog, and those are the only items the player-to-player trade system accepts. UGC Limiteds change hands through Marketplace resales alone. Classic Limiteds vs UGC Limiteds works through what that difference means for a portfolio, and the items leaderboard ranks what the active end of the market is doing today.

For a collector, a locked free item is still a fine thing to own. It dates your account, it looks good, and some of them are genuinely hard to get now. Treat the Robux value as zero and you will never be disappointed by it.

FAQ

Why can't I resell my Roblox UGC Limited?

Because its creator published it with the Resellable setting switched off. Roblox's publishing documentation makes resale an attribute the creator chooses for each Limited, and when it is off no owner can list a copy. About 37% of the UGC Limiteds in our catalog are in that state.

Can a creator turn resale on later?

Yes. Roblox's documentation says the Resellable status can be changed on a published item, and that once enabled it can never be disabled again. A locked item can open up if its creator decides to enable it, and an open item stays open permanently.

Are free UGC Limiteds worth Robux?

Almost never. Of the 66,797 resale-off UGC Limiteds we track, 66,183 were given away at 0 R$, and none of them shows a resale listing today. They hold collection value and nothing more.

How can I tell if a Limited is resellable before I buy?

Check whether it has a resale floor, meaning a cheapest listed copy from another owner. Items with resale enabled show one whenever a seller is active, and RBX Invest item pages display that floor alongside listing history. A widely owned item with no floor at all is usually locked.

Do resale-off items still run out of copies?

Yes. They are published as Limiteds with a fixed quantity, so the supply is capped and it empties. Of the resale-off items in our catalog, 57,414 have zero copies remaining, which makes them unavailable from the creator and from other players alike.

What do I keep when a resellable UGC Limited sells?

Half the sale price. Roblox's fee documentation splits a community-made Limited resale 50% to the reseller, 10% to the creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox, so a resale has to hit twice your cost to break even.

Do I need a subscription to resell a UGC Limited?

Yes, the seller needs an active Roblox Plus subscription. Buyers need nothing. Roblox's documentation also notes that reselling community-made Limiteds is unavailable for accounts based in Japan.

How many UGC Limiteds can actually be resold?

115,516 of the 182,313 UGC Limiteds in our catalog have resale enabled as of September 25, 2026, and 83,418 of those have a copy listed for sale right now. Everything else is held with no route to the market.
