How Long Should You Hold a UGC Limited After Launch?

How long to hold a UGC Limited after launch: the resale hold runs up to 30 days, and sold-out drops sat near 2x launch price in month one.

Buy a UGC Limited on launch day, meaning an avatar item an independent creator sells in a fixed number of copies, and you can't sell it straight away. Roblox's marketplace documentation puts a holding period of up to 30 days on a Limited bought from its creator, and that first month of eligibility is when most of the resale action happens. RBX Invest tracked 25,671 paid UGC Limited drops, meaning single releases, whose 30-day hold expired between May 2023 and October 2025. Among the ones that had already sold out, the median drop traded at 2.03 times its launch price in its first month of eligibility, which lands exactly on a reseller's break-even. Drops the creator was still selling traded at 1.00 times launch price. After that, prices creep up for about seven months and then flatten, while the number of copies changing hands falls off a cliff.

Quick answer: Plan on holding for months. The hold runs up to 30 days, and a drop that sold out before your hold expired sat at roughly 2x its launch price in month one, which is break-even once Roblox takes its half of a resale. The median sold-out drop peaked in month three at about 2.96x launch price, Across that group, 44% of all first-year resales happened in the first 30 days of eligibility.

Once a creator's stock runs out, the only way to get one of these items is to buy it from another player. The number of copies ever made is called the print, and a copy's serial number is its place in that run.

When can you sell a UGC Limited you bought at launch? After a hold of up to 30 days

Roblox's Marketplace fees and commissions page states it plainly: "After purchasing a Limited, there is up to a 30 day holding period when the item cannot be resold." A holding period is a lock on your copy. It sits in your inventory, you can wear it, and the resell button stays off until the clock runs out. Buy a copy from another player instead of from the creator and the lock is shorter, which our guide to Roblox Limited holding periods walks through.

Two other rules shape your exit. Reselling has to be switched on by the creator, and it needs an active Roblox Plus subscription on your account. UGC Limiteds also can't be traded, so a resale is the only way your copy ever leaves your inventory.

What do you need to sell it for? Twice what you paid

On a UGC Limited resale, Roblox's documentation splits the money four ways: 50% to the reseller, 10% to the item's creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. You keep half.

So the maths on a launch buy is short. Pay 140 R$ for a copy, and a 200 R$ resale pays you 100 R$, a loss. You need 280 R$ to get your Robux back, and 560 R$ to walk away with twice what you spent. Any price below 2x your cost is you paying for the privilege of holding the item. Our breakdown of Roblox marketplace fees covers the other splits.

That 2x line is the bar every number below is measured against.

What is a UGC Limited worth when the hold ends? About 2x launch price if it sold out first

The biggest factor in what your copy is worth on day 30 is whether the creator still has copies on the shelf.

Of the drops in our sample with recorded sales in their first eligible month, 8,669 had sold out before the hold expired. Their median sale price that month was 2.03 times the launch price, and 51.0% of them were at or above the 2x break-even. The other 8,993 were still in stock. Their median price was 1.00 times the launch price, and 7.9% cleared break-even.

That gap makes sense once you picture the shelf. While a creator still has stock, every buyer can get a fresh copy at the creator's price, so your copy competes with it, and the creator can cut that price whenever they like. A sold-out drop has no such ceiling. You can see which drops are in each state on the sold-out UGC Limiteds collection and the UGC Limiteds still in stock.

If you're buying launch-day copies with reselling in mind, sell-out speed is the signal to watch, and our data on how long UGC Limiteds take to sell out shows how wide that range is.

Does holding longer pay? A little more price, far fewer buyers

For the drops that sold out before their hold expired, the first year went like this. Each price is the average of real sales in that 30-day block, weighted by how many copies sold, and only months with five or more sales are counted so one odd sale can't set the number.

Month after your hold ends Drops still selling Copies sold Median price vs launch Share at or above 2x
Month 1 8,669 423,114 2.03x 51.0%
Month 2 7,115 161,734 2.06x 51.8%
Month 3 5,694 96,029 2.19x 54.5%
Month 6 3,218 37,836 2.42x 59.0%
Month 9 2,049 22,645 2.48x 59.8%
Month 12 1,468 14,271 2.53x 60.8%

The price column climbs about 25% over the year. The volume column collapses by 97%. Roughly 44% of this group's first-year resales happen in the first 30 days of eligibility, and about 70% happen in the first three months. The median drop in this group had four months in the whole year where five or more copies sold.

Both halves of that matter to you. Holding longer puts you in a market with a better price and almost nobody in it, which means a listing that sits unsold for weeks. Selling in month one puts you in the only deep market the item ever gets.

Unit: Raven: 1,162 R$ with 127 buyers, then 6,676 R$ with 12

Unit: Raven

Unit: Raven is a 666-copy UGC Limited that launched at 100 R$ in July 2023 and is recorded as selling out within two days. Its hold expired on 12 August 2023. Across that first eligible month, 127 copies changed hands at an average of 1,162 R$, already more than ten times the launch price. Its best month came seven months after the hold ended, averaging 6,676 R$, and only 12 copies sold in it. Its RAP sits at 7,040 R$ today. RAP, short for Recent Average Price, is Roblox's smoothed average of an item's past sales.

Patience was right on that one, and the patient seller still had to wait for a buyer. Twelve sales in a month across 666 copies is one sale every two or three days.

When did drops actually peak? Month three for the median

Across 9,738 sold-out drops with at least one month of five or more sales, the best month of the first year was:

  • Month 1 for 28.4% of them
  • Month 3 or earlier for 54.9%
  • Month 7 or later for 24.9%
  • Month 3 for the median drop, at about 2.96x the launch price

So just over half of these drops hit their high in the first quarter of eligibility, and a quarter took more than half a year. Nobody can pick the top in advance, and the stat that matters more for a plan is this one: 69.7% of sold-out drops cleared the 2x break-even in at least one month of their first year. Of the ones that missed 2x in their first month, 44.8% got there later. A weak start is recoverable, and it is also the most common sign of a drop that stays weak.

Print size changes the clock more than the odds, once a drop has sold out:

Copies in the print Drops Median month-one price At 2x in month one Cleared 2x at some point Median best month
Up to 100 4,114 2.22x 58.0% 66.4% Month 2
101 to 500 4,144 1.92x 46.9% 72.4% Month 4
501 to 2,000 1,151 1.84x 45.2% 72.1% Month 7
Over 2,000 329 2.05x 50.8% 69.0% Month 5

Thin prints pay sooner and bigger prints take longer to find their level. The share that eventually clears break-even sits near 70% across all four bands, because selling out before the hold expired is itself the demand test.

Five drops and how their first year went

Every price here is an average of real sales in that 30-day window, with the number of copies sold beside it so you can see how thin the later months get.

Drop Copies Launch price Month 1 Best month RAP today
Unit: Raven 666 100 R$ 1,162 R$ (127 sold) Month 7, 6,676 R$ (12 sold) 7,040 R$
Silver Fractured Crown 750 120 R$ 1,397 R$ (301 sold) Month 2, 3,230 R$ (51 sold) 2,743 R$
Immortal Sword: White Wyvern 3,000 140 R$ 141 R$ (79 sold) Month 4, 2,321 R$ (86 sold) 200 R$
Sparkle Time Clockwork Shades 2,999 130 R$ 133 R$ (2,772 sold) Month 9, 1,929 R$ (10 sold) 849 R$
White Stellar Star Crown 2,500 125 R$ 91 R$ (1,897 sold) Month 12, 1,835 R$ (14 sold) 1,958 R$

The bottom three were all still in stock when their holds expired, and the month-one prices show it: sales at or under the launch price, with most of that volume coming from the creator's own shelf. White Wyvern took 116 days to sell out, and its best month landed right after that, four months into eligibility, at 2,321 R$. Its RAP is 200 R$ now, so the window opened and closed. Silver Fractured Crown and Unit: Raven are both recorded as selling out within two days of launch, and both traded well above break-even the first month anyone could sell.

Other Clockwork-named drops are ranked live on the Clockwork collection, and crown drops sit on the crowns collection.

How to decide on your own copy

A short routine that fits what the data says:

  1. Check whether the drop is sold out. In stock means your copy competes with the creator's price, and holding until the shelf is empty is usually better than listing into it.
  2. Work out your 2x number before you list anything. Launch price times two is the price where you get your Robux back.
  3. Look at month one honestly. A sold-out drop trading under 2x in its first eligible month has a 44.8% record of getting there later, so treat that as a coin flip.
  4. If you're at a price you're happy with in the first month, take it seriously. That's where the buyers are.
  5. If you hold, expect to wait. The median sold-out drop had four months all year with five or more sales.
  6. Track your listings. The reseller terminal shows where your copy sits in each item's price ladder, the Deals feed flags listings below market once you're signed in, and the items leaderboard ranks the market's live movers.

For picking which launches are worth buying in the first place, our screen for which UGC Limiteds to buy for reselling does that job, and it filters hard on sell-out speed for the reason this article just measured.

None of this is financial advice. Robux spent on Limiteds can be lost, and about three in ten sold-out drops never cleared break-even in their first year at all.

Figures come from RBX Invest catalog and sale history as of 9 October 2026, covering paid UGC Limited drops whose holds expired between 5 May 2023 and 9 October 2025, with fee, holding period and resale rules taken from Roblox's Marketplace fees and commissions documentation.

FAQ

How long is the holding period on a UGC Limited bought at launch?

Up to 30 days. Roblox's Marketplace documentation says a Limited cannot be resold for up to a 30 day holding period after purchase. A copy bought from another reseller instead of from the creator carries a shorter lock.

Can I sell a UGC Limited the day the hold ends?

Yes, if the creator enabled reselling and you have an active Roblox Plus subscription. Whether you should is a different question: month one is the deepest market a drop gets, carrying about 44% of the group's first-year resales, but the median sold-out drop was only at 2.03x launch price then, which is break-even after fees.

How much do I keep when I resell a UGC Limited?

Half. Roblox's documentation splits a UGC Limited resale 50% to the reseller, 10% to the creator, 10% to the seller or affiliate, and 30% to Roblox. That is why your break-even resale price is twice what you paid.

Do I need Roblox Plus to resell a UGC Limited?

Yes. Roblox's Marketplace documentation states that Roblox Plus members can resell purchased Limited items when the original creator has enabled reselling. The person buying your copy needs no subscription.

What if the creator still has copies for sale when my hold ends?

Expect launch price and nothing more. Drops still in stock at hold expiry had a median month-one sale price of 1.00x launch price, and only 7.9% traded at or above the 2x break-even, against 51.0% for drops that had sold out. Waiting for the shelf to empty is usually the better move.

Is it worth holding a UGC Limited for a year?

Sometimes, and the gain is smaller than most people expect. For sold-out drops the median price went from 2.03x launch in month one to 2.53x in month 12, a rise of about 25%, while monthly sales fell roughly 97%. A quarter of them did peak in month seven or later.

Can I trade a UGC Limited instead of reselling it?

No. Roblox's player-to-player trade system handles classic Limiteds made by Roblox, and UGC Limiteds change hands only through Marketplace resales. A resale is your only exit.

How many copies is a safe print to buy at launch?

Prints of 100 copies or fewer paid soonest, at a median 2.22x launch price in month one with a median peak in month two. Bigger prints took longer, with 501 to 2,000 copy drops peaking in month seven on average. Around 70% of sold-out drops cleared break-even at some point regardless of print size.
