A Roblox sale event is a scheduled marketplace promotion where Roblox brings old, off-sale catalog items back for purchase, usually one item per day on a 24-hour timer at a price well above the original. Most of these items go off-sale again once the timer runs out. A handful, in each event, get flipped to Limited status instead, which is the moment they become a real trading asset. Roblox revived the format with Black Friday 2024 after a five-year gap, and has run it several times since, including the March 2026 Sale and Memorial Day 2026.
What counts as a Roblox sale event?
Roblox has used the "sale" label for a specific kind of promotion since 2024: a run of several days, each day surfacing one previously offsale item for purchase again, at a price set well above what it originally cost. The item is available for roughly 24 hours (some older sales used 48-hour windows), then goes back offsale. Nothing about the format guarantees scarcity. Anyone who buys during the window gets a normal, unlimited copy unless Roblox separately flips that item to Limited status.
That distinction matters more than anything else in this guide. A sale window is a purchasing opportunity. A Limited conversion is an investment event. The two often happen close together, but they are not the same thing, and mixing them up is the single most common mistake newer traders make when a sale is running.
The 24-hour timer format, and what it replaced
Roblox's sale events go back further than the current format. Black Friday 2019 ran from November 29 to December 2, 2019, releasing accessories in scattered hourly "waves" rather than one item a day. It was widely seen as underwhelming: mostly expensive items, thin selection, and a sense that Roblox was using the event to push UGC discounts more than its own catalog. Roblox didn't run another sale for five years.
Black Friday 2024 (November 23-30, 2024) reset the format to something cleaner: one classic offsale item per day, each on its own 24-hour timer, each priced above its original cost. Before the sale started, Roblox flipped the Gold Clockwork Headphones to Limited, apparently to build hype going in. That pattern (a Limited conversion timed around a sale rather than strictly inside it) has repeated in every sale since.
Black Friday 2025: the format matures
Black Friday 2025 ran November 22-29, 2025, and followed the 2024 blueprint closely: eight returning items, one per day, each on a 24-hour timer with a markup over its original price. The lineup included W Inc. Designer Sunglasses, Lampshade, ASCII White, Evil Duck, Rainbow Mr. Tentacles, the Classic Roblox Pumpkin Head, Red Clockwork Headphones, and the Pinstripe Fedora.
Lampshade is worth pulling out on its own, because it's the cleanest example of how these events actually work over time. It's one of Roblox's oldest catalog items, first sold on August 15, 2007, for 35 Tickets back when Tix was still Roblox's secondary currency. It has resurfaced in sale-style promotions repeatedly since: a 2-day window during Black Friday 2015 at 25 Robux, a 24-hour window during a 2017 Labor Day promotion at 10 Robux, and the 24-hour Black Friday 2025 window at 350 Robux. None of those turned it Limited. It stayed a normal, always-off-and-on catalog hat for eighteen years.
The March 2026 Sale: when a sale item goes Limited for good
The March 2026 Sale ran from March 20 to April 2, 2026, and used the same eight-items-on-daily-timers format as the two Black Fridays before it. Roblox confirmed Great Uncle Tentacles and Frenemy as part of the lineup. On March 20, the opening day, Clockwork's Golden Shades went Limited.
This sale is also where the Lampshade story ends, for now. After nineteen years of temporary reappearances, the March 2026 Sale finally converted it to a Limited, locking in the roughly 142,654 copies sold across its history as the item's permanent supply. Anyone holding one after that date owns a tradable item with a fixed supply for the first time in the hat's history.
As of this writing, both of the recent sale-driven Limiteds carry supply in the tens of thousands rather than the low hundreds typical of an organic grail:
| Item | Went Limited | RAP (Aug 2026) | Copies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clockwork's Golden Shades | March 20, 2026 (March 2026 Sale) | 9,717 R$ | 73,124 |
| Gold Clockwork Headphones | Pre-sale hype, Black Friday 2024 | 5,712 R$ | 262,687 |
| Lampshade | March 2026 Sale | 780 R$ | 142,654 |
That supply pattern is the practical lesson. Sale-driven Limiteds launch with whatever quantity sold during the promotional window rather than a deliberately capped run, so they behave more like liquid collectibles than scarce grails minted in the dozens or low hundreds. More supply generally means tighter, more predictable pricing near RAP, and less of the wide bid-ask spread that shows up on genuinely rare pieces. You can browse both ends of that spectrum on the rarest Limiteds collection.
Memorial Day 2026: a lighter, mixed format
Roblox ran a smaller Memorial Day sale from May 21 to May 26, 2026. It didn't stick to the strict one-item-a-day Black Friday template: five items went on sale, one brand-new item was released, and one item that had appeared in a previous sale was converted to Limited. It's a sign the format is still evolving rather than locking into a fixed pattern, and it's worth watching whether future sales lean back toward the tighter Black Friday structure or keep mixing formats like this.
Why this matters if you invest in Limiteds
Three things worth taking from the pattern so far:
- A sale appearance is not a Limited conversion. Most items that show up in these windows go straight back offsale afterward, exactly like Lampshade did for eighteen years. Don't treat "it's on sale today" as a buy signal for future RAP growth on its own.
- Watch for the conversion announcement specifically, not just the sale calendar. Roblox has flipped items to Limited both mid-sale (Clockwork's Golden Shades, March 2026) and just ahead of one to build hype (Gold Clockwork Headphones, Black Friday 2024). Either pattern is possible in a future event.
- Repeat appearances are a signal worth tracking. An item that keeps resurfacing in sale after sale without going Limited, the way Lampshade did across 2015, 2017, and 2025, has already shown Roblox is willing to bring it back. That doesn't guarantee a future conversion, but it's a reasonable item to keep on a watchlist.
Once an item does convert, standard resale economics take over, covered in full in our marketplace fees guide. RBX Invest's Deals feed is the fastest way to see resale listings on any item as soon as it starts trading, and the items leaderboard is the place to check where a freshly Limited item sits against the rest of the market.
This isn't financial advice. Sale-driven Limiteds are a small, unpredictable slice of the market, and buying into a promotional window carries the same risk as any other speculative Limited purchase.
FAQ
What is a Roblox sale event?
A scheduled marketplace promotion, usually spanning several days, where Roblox brings a previously offsale catalog item back for purchase for about 24 hours at a time, one item per day, typically priced above its original cost.
Does buying an item during a sale window make it a Limited?
No. A sale window just makes an item purchasable again for a set period. It only becomes a tradable Limited if Roblox separately flips its status, which happens for some sale items and not others.
How do I know if a sale item will go Limited?
There's no announced rule. Roblox has converted items mid-sale (Clockwork's Golden Shades during the March 2026 Sale) and just before one starts (Gold Clockwork Headphones ahead of Black Friday 2024). Items that keep reappearing across multiple sales without converting, like Lampshade did for years, are worth watching but aren't guaranteed to flip.
How often does Roblox run these sales?
Irregularly. After a five-year gap following Black Friday 2019, Roblox has run Black Friday 2024, Black Friday 2025, the March 2026 Sale, and a smaller Memorial Day 2026 sale, roughly averaging a few per year since the 2024 revival.
Are sale-converted Limiteds good investments?
They tend to launch with much larger supply than organic grails, since their initial quantity is whatever sold during the promotional window rather than a fixed mint. That generally means more liquidity and a tighter spread to RAP, but less scarcity-driven upside than a low-copy classic. This isn't financial advice, and outcomes vary item by item.
