Roblox Staff and Wand Limiteds: History and Prices

Roblox made 11 staff and wand Limiteds in 2011 and 2012. Copies, RAP and lowest asks for every one, led by The Necrosapien Staff at 245 copies.

Roblox published eleven magic staffs and wands as Limited gear, every one of them between March 2011 and March 2012. The family is led by The Necrosapien Staff, a 245-copy zombie-summoning staff that sold for 5,000 Robux and now carries a RAP of 32,617 R$, and it ends with the Rubber Chicken Wand at 3,362. Nobody can add to the set, because gear is a category Roblox closed years ago.

Quick answer: Roblox's staff and wand Limiteds are eleven pieces of classic gear sold in 2011 and 2012. The Necrosapien Staff is the most valuable at 245 copies and a 32,617 RAP, the Staff of Neverending Frost and Zeus's Lightning Bolt Staff come next, and the Rubber Chicken Wand is the cheapest way in at under 3,000 R$. RAP means Recent Average Price, Roblox's smoothed average of what an item actually sells for.

What is a staff or wand Limited on Roblox? Eleven pieces of 2011 gear

Gear is Roblox's word for usable equipment: swords, launchers, instruments, and in this case magic staffs. It lives in your backpack, the bar of items at the bottom of your screen, and it appears only in experiences whose owner has switched gear on. Most owners never did, so these staffs mostly sit in inventories. Our guide to gear Limiteds covers how the category wound down.

A Limited is an item Roblox has stopped selling, with a fixed number of copies, which players can then resell to each other or trade. By the community encyclopedia's records, ten of the eleven went out as Limited U items, meaning each copy carries a serial number showing which one you own, and serial numbers have their own quirks when it comes to price. The eleventh, Captain Steelshanks Recruiting Staff, has a stranger history covered below.

Roblox made other staffs that never became Limiteds, and they are worth knowing about so you do not overpay for the wrong one. The Zombie Staff arrived on April 30, 2010 at 1,000 Robux and summons five zombies, making it the clear ancestor of the Necrosapien Staff. The Hades Staff of Darkness went out in January 2012 to players redeeming a GameStop gift card, which puts it with the rest of the gift card items. The Korblox Mage Staff followed in August 2013 at 1,000 Robux as an ordinary catalog item, and Splinter's Staff was a 2012 event prize from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles promotion. None of those four is a Limited, so none of them has a resale market.

Trader consensus and RAP agree on the running order here, which is unusual for a corner of the market this quiet. On most thin families the two disagree, because RAP is smoothed across an item's whole sale history and drifts behind reality when sales are rare. Our RAP explainer walks through the formula if you want the mechanics.

The Necrosapien Staff: the family's most expensive launch and its top price today

The Necrosapien Staff

Roblox put the Necrosapien Staff on sale on October 29, 2011 at 5,000 Robux, by far the steepest launch price in the family and a serious amount of money for a 2011 item. It summons four zombies that chase anyone nearby, and its catalog description is a joke about necromancers liking Latin.

Only 245 copies exist, less than a third of what most of the family carries, and that shortage does the work. Its RAP of 32,617 leads the family even on one of the smaller multiples here, roughly 6.5x its original price. The one copy currently listed sits at 200,000 R$, six times RAP, and that listing has not moved since the end of July. A gap that wide usually means the holder is in no hurry, so treat the ask as a wish.

The Halloween timing was not an accident. Roblox has a long habit of saving its odd, expensive items for late October, which we trace in the rarest Halloween Limiteds.

Staff of Neverending Frost: the 550 Robux staff that became a 30,000 Robux item

Staff of Neverending Frost

The Frost staff went on sale December 2, 2011 for 550 Robux with a stock of 1,000, and 994 copies are still in circulation. Its RAP of 29,822 works out to about 54x the launch price, the second-best return in the family, and its cheapest listing, at 22,999, is a real price someone could hit today.

It freezes anyone it hits in a block of ice and scrambles their backpack, and it holds the family's second-highest favorite count at 8,815. Favorites are a rough popularity gauge, and on old gear they track the items people remember using.

Roblox released the Blizzard Wand three weeks later, on December 23, 2011, at 900 Robux with a 900-copy stock. It does almost the same thing for a fifth of the price today, which is the sort of quirk that happens when one item catches on and its near-twin does not. Both show up in the frost items collection.

Zeus's Lightning Bolt Staff: 492 copies of a 3,000 Robux flex

Zeus's Lightning Bolt Staff

Sold on November 25, 2011 for 3,000 Robux, Zeus's staff was the second-priciest launch in the family and one of the stronger pieces of gear Roblox ever shipped. It throws lightning in several directions, shields the user, and calls down a strike that slows everyone it touches.

With 492 copies it is the second-scarcest staff here, and its 24,179 RAP puts it third. The cheapest copy sits at 16,999, comfortably below RAP, which is the pattern you want to see if you are buying: a live floor under the smoothed average usually means you can actually get filled.

Captain Steelshanks Recruiting Staff: the one with 10,488 copies

Captain Steelshanks Recruiting Staff

This one breaks every rule in the family. Roblox sold it as an ordinary catalog item on February 4, 2012 for 333 Robux, and it stayed on sale for a year and a half. The community encyclopedia's page for the staff dates its move to Limited status to August 31, 2013, during that year's Labor Day sale, which is why 10,488 copies exist while the rest of the family sits under 1,500.

Seven times the supply of the next-biggest item in the family, and it still trades at a 20,294 RAP. Two things explain that. It turns whoever you hit into a pirate, a gag people liked enough to make it the most favorited item in the family at 18,880. And going Limited late means it was never a Limited U, so no copy carries a serial number and every copy is interchangeable. Its floor of 19,999 sits right at RAP, which is what a liquid market looks like: plenty of copies, plenty of listings, a price everyone agrees on. If pirates are your thing, the pirate Limiteds history covers the rest of that catalog.

The wands: turkeys, trolls and rubber chickens

Roblox's wands were the comedy end of the line, and they are priced accordingly.

The Magical Turkey Wand came out on November 18, 2011 for 750 Robux with a 600-copy stock, turning enemies into turkeys ahead of Thanksgiving. It is the scarcest wand at 593 copies and sits fifth on price with a 13,410 RAP, and its floor of 15,889 stands above RAP, one of only two items here where that is true. It belongs to the small group of holiday releases covered in the Thanksgiving Limiteds history.

The Trololololo Wand followed on January 13, 2012 at 600 Robux, turning its target into a troll for ten seconds as a nod to a viral video everyone in 2012 had seen. It trades at 8,278 with 986 copies.

The Rubber Chicken Wand closed the family on March 23, 2012 at 500 Robux with a 1,200-copy stock. It turns an opponent's weapon into a rubber chicken, and Roblox wrote the catalog description as a direct taunt at owners of Darkheart, the sword that still sits at the top of the whole gear market and that we cover in the Illumina and Darkheart history. At a 3,362 RAP and a 2,995 floor, it is the cheapest item in the family by a clear margin.

The 2011 pair: Celestial Light and Raging Storm

Roblox released the Staff of Celestial Light and the Staff of the Raging Storm on the same day, April 8, 2011, both priced at 700 Robux. One heals everyone standing near you and deals no damage at all. The other rains fireballs in a cross shape and sets you on fire afterwards.

Fifteen years on they trade within 600 Robux of each other, 5,270 against 4,736, with 1,457 and 1,461 copies. They are the closest thing this market has to a matched set, and buying both for under 10,000 R$ is one of the tidier ways to own a piece of early 2011. The Levitating Staff of the Cosmos, the family's oldest at March 25, 2011, sits in the same band at 6,251 despite having the third-highest favorite count.

Why are these staffs worth more than their launch prices? Supply closed in 2012

Roblox printed a few hundred to a few thousand copies of each, stopped, and can never print more. Gear was retired as a category, so no new staff can join the family and no old one can be restocked. Copies only leave, which happens when an account holding one is terminated.

The multiples tell a story about which end of the price range aged better. The cheap launches did far better than the expensive ones:

Item Launch price RAP now Rough multiple
Captain Steelshanks Recruiting Staff 333 20,294 61x
Staff of Neverending Frost 550 29,822 54x
Magical Turkey Wand 750 13,410 18x
Trololololo Wand 600 8,278 14x
Zeus's Lightning Bolt Staff 3,000 24,179 8x
The Necrosapien Staff 5,000 32,617 6.5x

Buyers in 2011 paid up for the scarce, powerful items and were right about the ranking, because the Necrosapien Staff still leads on price today. They also paid so much up front that most of the future gain was already baked in. The 333 Robux pirate staff nobody thought twice about is the one that multiplied hardest, and that pattern shows up across the market: cheap, high-copy items from a famous era often outrun the trophy pieces sold next to them, because the trophy piece starts near its ceiling.

Should you buy a staff or wand Limited? The math and the caveats

Seven of the eleven trade under 15,000 R$, which makes this one of the cheaper ways to own something from 2011. Nothing here reaches gem tier, the scarce high-value Limiteds trading in the millions.

Run the fee math before you plan a flip, which is trader slang for buying a copy to sell it on. Roblox charges a 30% marketplace fee when you resell a classic Limited, so you keep 70% of the sale price. Buy a Blizzard Wand at 5,000 R$ and sell it at 8,000, and you receive 5,600 after the fee, clearing 600 R$. To break even you need to sell for about 1.43x what you paid. Our marketplace fees guide has the full picture, and there is also a holding period after a resale purchase, a stretch of days when you cannot sell the copy on, explained in the holding periods guide.

Liquidity varies enormously inside this one family. Captain Steelshanks has 10,488 copies and a floor sitting right at RAP, while the 245-copy Necrosapien Staff might take months to buy at a sane price, and listings at the scarce end can be theatre, as that standing 200,000 R$ ask shows. Gear also cannot be worn, so its buyers are collectors who like the history, which makes prices moodier than hat prices.

None of this is financial advice. Old gear can sit flat for years, and a single sale on a market this thin moves RAP a long way. Screen the family from the items leaderboard, watch for underpriced listings in the Deals feed, which needs a signed-in account, and browse the wider price band in the Limiteds under 10,000 collection.

FAQ

How many staff and wand Limiteds did Roblox make?

Eleven, all published by Roblox itself between March 25, 2011 and March 23, 2012. Roblox made other staffs, including the Zombie Staff and the Korblox Mage Staff, but those were ordinary catalog or promotional items that never became Limiteds and have no resale market.

What is the most valuable Roblox staff Limited?

The Necrosapien Staff, with 245 copies and a RAP of 32,617 R$. It launched on October 29, 2011 at 5,000 Robux, the most expensive launch price in the family, and it is the scarcest of the eleven by a wide margin.

What is the cheapest Roblox wand Limited?

The Rubber Chicken Wand, at a 3,362 RAP with a copy listed at 2,995 R$. It came out on March 23, 2012 for 500 Robux, and with 1,181 copies it is the most common of the wands.

Can you still use a staff or wand in Roblox?

Only in an experience whose owner has enabled gear, and the large majority have not. Gear equips from your backpack, so in most places you visit these staffs will not show up at all.

Are Roblox staff Limiteds tradeable?

Yes. All eleven are Roblox-created Limiteds, and those are the items the trade system supports. Trading requires an active Roblox Plus subscription on both accounts, and selling a copy on the resale market requires one on the seller's account.

Why does Captain Steelshanks Recruiting Staff have 10,488 copies?

Because it was sold as a regular catalog item for a year and a half before going Limited. Roblox put it on sale February 4, 2012 at 333 Robux, and community records place its switch to Limited status on August 31, 2013 during that year's Labor Day sale, by which point thousands of copies had already sold.

Do these staffs have serial numbers?

Ten of the eleven do. Roblox sold them as Limited U items, which means each copy is stamped with a number showing where it fell in the original run. Captain Steelshanks Recruiting Staff is the exception, because it went Limited after its regular sale run and its copies carry no serials.
